Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby zarababe » Mon Nov 28, 2005 11:57 pm

This year marks the 50th year since the European Cup came in to being. UEFA are marking the year by presenting commemorative plaques to players and managers of the past who have won the famous trophy:from UEfa.com site..
------------------------------------------------------------
Champions at home
More Champions of Europe received awards at Anfield, home of the current continental title-holders, Liverpool FC who were playing Real Betis Balompié. UEFA Honorary Member Des Casey presented a plaque to Graham and Robert Paisley, sons of the the late Bob Paisley, who guided Liverpool to the European Cup in 1977, 1978 and 1981 as well as to UEFA Cup success in 1976 and UEFA Super Cup victory in 1977. Phil Neal, who featured in all those triumphs in addition to the 1984 Champions' Cup win in which he struck Liverpool's only goal in regulation time, was also commended as was former Reds player and manager Kenny Dalglish, a European champion in 1978, when he scored against Club Brugge KV, 1981 and 1984.

----------------------------------------------------------
Brings tears to your eyes, the great Bob Paisely's sons receiving his award :bowdown

Did anyone see the presentation on the pitch during the Betis game?

Yeah they had the presentation at half time, Phil came out 1st to huge applause then dalglish came out, followed by paisleys 2 lads who were greeted to huge applause and chants of Paisley, top honours for top men  :buttrock

They were presented by a representitive from UEFA and think it was the bloke off radio city who normally does the pitch side stuff who compered for it, just a question id like to ask, those 3 awrads covered the 1st 4 european cups, did Rafa recieve anything before the game as i was late goin in the ground, surely he must have??

.. Thanks Gary.. that sounds awesome.

UEFA only mentioned the names quoted above. There is a year long programme of events to present awards.. I think our whole team should get it.. what game that night was ay .. phew makes yer shiver at the thought of it .. :)

I would make sense for the Boss to get one, as the Manager of the holders in this commemorative year.. what a great honour for our club to be European Champions ..

Ferguson got one before the united game so surely Rafa must have got one.

Its a conspiracy. I don't know who against but I'll think of something. Maybe something involving Moyes wanting to move up the coaching ladder to Pompey. I'll work it in somehow. :D
