peewee. That's fu.ckin' weak dude. Whether you like, dislike, hate or respect someone, you don't dance on their grave. And quite frankly, I can't see you posting on this thread for any other reason than attention seeking. Let the real football fans mourn the loss of a great player and learn to show a bit of respect. You make me ashamed to call myself a Red if that means being anything to do with someone who kicks a man when he's down. We all have personal problems, and I dare say you've had a few (I know I have) and when someone has shuffled off this mortal coil, they should be remembered for their most important acts. He entertained millions throughout England, Britain and Europe, and I will always remember him for this. So If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all.

I've only read the first page of this thread, and I don't intend to read it again, because this should not turn into a slanging match.

I will however pay my respects to George Best. Every time I have a chat with my dad about football, it nearly always comes back to which is better, the new game, or the old game. My father saw Pele, Moore, King Kenny, Maradona, Gazza, Cruyf and many more through watching Liverpool and England and it always ends with him telling me how amazing George Best was to watch. I, like any younger fan, think that I know everything and I was always sceptical, but having seen the footage of George over the last couple of days, I have to agree. More determined than Gerrard, more skill than Ronaldhino and all in a body the same size as Luis Garcia. If only he'd been in our red, we might have another couple of stars next to our name. Legend

Scottboat..there are those whose contribution to football earns them a place in the games hall of fame because of a footballing pedigree which is unique .. one which raises the game to levels unknown before and whose contribution deseves universal recognistion and acknowledgement at a time like this.. Best was in the class of Pele, Maradonna, Cruyff etc. if the British game wishes to honour him in this way so be it, it's not a bone of contention is it.. or is it ?

..different eras although Diego was genius personified.. this is not a the place to debate who was the best..

I choose to say that the three in the pic deserve homage equally because of the genius of there contribution to the beautiful game.. they made the beautiful game.. simply STUNNING :bowdown

Totally agree. No matter how he lived his life he deserves total respect from all football lovers simply because he was a footballing genius.

I find this whole thread sad and upsetting. I watched a warts and all documntary on George Best last night, it was filmed in 2002, I think. It made me sad, it made me laugh and it made feel teary.
He was a brilliant player, on a par with Pele, unfortunately, Best was probably the best all-round and most singularly gifted player to never have played in the World Cup. We thought it was bad for Rushie and Kenny, but Best was better than either of them!
He came across as a gifted genius of a footballer, a good looking, charismatic, charming man, who would always sign autographs, talk to anyone who wanted to talk to him.
Tellingly, Bobby Charlton was fond of him, never criticised him privately or publicly about his life style, only when he didn't turn up for training, and laughed about trying to get into a very low slung sports car.
God, there are so many things I am angry about.
Alcohol.......He was an Alcoholic and he admitted it. I admire him for it because there is such a stigma about it.
One only has to look at the news about drink fuelled violence and see how alcohol affects the behaviour of most normal men. Men who don't have an addiction to it!
I do not condone his violence to his wife, but was it this same wife who ended up on I'm a Celebrity get me out of here. Her only claim to being a celebrity was the fact that she was blonde, fit and the 'folorn' ex-wife of George Best. Or have I got it totally wrong?

Also, for those who slag off a person, for their faults when they have just died?
I have suffered a relative by marriage, slag off my Dad on the day he was buried. I would have respected him more if he had done it openly, but after having enjoyed the hospitalty of my family, he sat on the same chair my Dad always used at the kitchen table, and slagged him off. I only realised that was what he was doing because there was a deathly silence when I entered the Kitchen to make tea and coffee for everyone else.
The moral of that sad and very personal tale is this; If you don't like someone, keep your mouth shut. If you can't say anything nice, say nothing at all.

If this relative dies in my life-time, I will offer my condolances to his family out of respect to them, I would attend his funeral out of respect for them, but I would NEVER slag him off.

Its obvious some people cant see past their bitterness because he was a Scum player!
All the same he was a legend in my eyes.
And Leon? George Best and Harold Shipman?
One was a footballer the other was the biggest serial killer to be known in British history!
Would you care to explain your logic in compairing the 2 cause im fu.cked if i can see any whatsoever fella!
