OK so the new law kicks in at midnight allowing all pubs that have applied successfully for a licence to open much longer hours, some even 24hr

I think it's a good thing personally, I'm a great believer in freedom of choice and don't like the idea of a nanny state telling me when I can or can't have a drink. If I want a drink at stupid o'clock in the morning and somebody's daft enough to stay open long enough to serve me it, then where's the harm in that? Longer term I think the new laws will help British culture grow up a bit when it comes to drink, so that we drink in a more moderate, continental style instead of drinking like a f*cking camel because the bar's only open til 11 and it's already 9pm. The biggest difference I think though will be in a reduction in fighting at closing time. Just about every fight I've ever seen has been not in a pub but in a great big queue in a taxi rank or a kebab shop caused by every single place having to close at either 11pm or 2am. If places can shut whenever they want then surely people will hit the streets at varying times meaning less queues for kebabs?

your thoughts please boozehounds...

PS I'm not aware of any of the boozers round my way going for longer hours apart from the big town-centre type bars, what's it like elsewhere?

Its ruddy bloody fantastic in my opinion, more hours to drink booze, ill erm, drink to that!

If you think about it its genius, easier to get a taxi, easier getting food, not so many n0bheads lerking about, and once again, more drinking time

Think it will have some positives

Reduce fighting outside

Reduce taxi ques from town especially on a sat night

Also how annoying is it wen ya havin a laugh/good night out and the lights go on an you have to go .

you got more time to pull a bird instead of the ugly ten to two birds as my mates call em

on the negatives

Will people want to work unsociable hours ?

Will people get wasted and cause more fights ?

I think it is a very good idea. I'm sure for a while some people will go mad drinking (out of novelty) and the likes of the Daily Mail will have a field day. But in the long term, I think it will be beneficial.

People will now drink much more slowly, as they won't feel under pressure for time. If they drink slowly, they are giving their bodies more times to adjust to the alcohol. Although some people will go mad, I think a lot of people will end up changing their drinking habits, and will spread their booze consumption over a longer period, meaning that they shouldn't be as messy when they leave the pub.

The main thing is that it should cut down on the crowds of dunkards being turfed out onto the street, all within 30 minutes of each other. Instead people will leave bars in dribs and drabs throughout the night.

It all boils down to the individual, however. If the individual takes responsibility for his drinking, then there would be no problems.

i'd hate to be this individual fella - he always has to take responsibility for everything.

here in cold and wintry spain there is no universal closing time at all. some bars close at midnight, others at one, others at two, three, four or whatever. some even open at three an go on until there is no one left. in the two and a half years i've been here i've not seen a single late night drink related incident, and there is no stress on the streets at night. people drink responsibly and with a much more mature attitude to alcohol. it would be great to see the UK ending up like that.

:D

It's ironic that drink-related anti social behaviour is on the rise in some of the big cities ( I'm sure some of you have seen the embarassing footage of clubbers puking-up on the streets and being dragged in to police vans etc etc , indeed some of you may be involved :D ) and  the Police, who already have a hard enough job as it is, have been dead against this extension, because of the implications for policing and mainataining law and order, and yet the extended opening hours have been agreed by the government.

Also the excessive amount of drinking, encouraged within such social settings etc, is painfully evident with the demise of someone like Geroge Best. Doctors have used evidence of an increase in drink related health problems, which are  worryingly becoming irreversable in younger and younger people = more burdens on the already stretched NHS etc.

It is just another way of increasing the Chancellors coffers.

In conclusion :D it's not a good idea

Its not going to be all pubs, just them in town and maybe a few local ones will stay open 1 or 2 hours later.
It maybe better that all them youngones wont be all coming out of pubs and clubs at the same time.
Maybe there will be less trouble.
Interestingly enough on SKY news before they where saying more people prefer to stay in than go out.
And its bloody baltic around this time of the year, people need money for Christmas plus its to bloody dear to stay out for hours and hours on end.
I spend about 50- 60 quid when I go out imagine how much people would spend with being out for 10 hours as appossed to five :sniffle
There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.
