i think yesterday the absence of King Luis was really obvious , we could criticise this guy but honestly he can make things happen when our strikers are not having the best of nights ..

And Sabre, Betis did your country prode tonight mate, they really are special supporters. There was massive respect between both sets which is rare these days, bit of banter during the game at times, but it was all good and it was great just to take in what happened at the end.

As I'm happy they had the attitude that Anfield deserves, I'll make a little post in tribute of that supporters.

Betis is the second team of Sevilla. Originally if you were a humble people and worker, you were Betis fan, and the posh part of the city used to be of Sevilla. Now, it's all more mixed but still have that reputation.

Betis supporters have a famous shout, known in all Spain. "Viva er Beti, manque pierda" which is the souther accent for "Viva el Betis, aunque pierda", which is "Long life for Betis, although we lose".

That shout represents best the ideology of that crowd, one of the most faithful of Spain. They indeed have been more a humble team historically than a team that have been in European Heights. That changed since they had their new president, the ultra catholic religious, yet gay, peculiar Ruiz de Lopera, who whas named the stadium with his name.

Betis - Sevilla rivalry, has no match. There's not usually violence (unless a few tw*ts) but things like a customer leaving a restaurant because they have a Sevilla banner, Fathers that won't allow his daughter marry with a fan of the rival club, and Betis fans oficially ask to their players to "for your sake, lose against Oviedo, we are relegated, but that way Sevilla will be relegated" might give you an idea of that rivalry. Betis indeed lost 0-something against Oviedo, with their fans cheerins away goals, which you might find astonishing, and they went together to the second division some years ago.

I thought you might find funny all those "details", hope they weren't boring

It said "HELLO ANFIELD ENJOY THE BEST"

Don't you just love European nights on the Kop :D

Quality performance from the Boys in Red who dominated almost from start to finish. Betis were industrious and quick in the pass but Liverpool were obviously told to press and deny them space as at times it resembled a premiership game.

Got to pick out a few players for special mention. notably Dietmar Hamann who belied his years and had the legs to last the full 90 mins against a quick Betis Midfield. Time and time again he broke up the Betis play and his pass completion must have been up in the 90% range. I often think we take the Kaiser for granted sometimes but I've always said we don't realise what we are missing until he isn;t playing.

Another player worth a mention is the enigma that is Peter Crouch. The press are having a field day with him at present cos it sells papers but his work rate and interplay was exceptional last night. Yes , he had a bagful of chances and should have tucked at least 1 away but his overall importance to the team shouldn;t be underestimated. Unforunately or Peter he is in the position that demands goals but had he oput in the same performance last night from Midfield he would have been MOM.(not that i'm suggesting we play him there!)

Overall a satisfying nights work and assured entry into the last 16. We have shown we are very difficult to beat in Europe and Barcelona aside, we are as good as any in European competition so far this time round.

The Chelsea game should be interesting. Don't be fooled by Maureen's noncholance, he will be desperate to win this one !

with the next round in our pockets, would you rather think in the next match of the EPL? we all know after CL games are different, and as Rafa states, it doesn't really matter if you play against the first or the second (examples Liverpool-Chelsea, Olimpique Lyonaisse - Real Madrid , Bayern Munich Ajax).

If as many times stated here the EPL is the bread and butter, would you give some rest to the main players?

No Sabre, we shouldn't rest our players against City and I don't think Benitez will do it either. This game is really important for us and it seems that Benitez has kept his focus on it.

The game against Chelsea is not that important, however I wouldn't rest players for that game either because I really don't want to see letting in goals left in right. One time was bad enough against them.

No, no, I must have explained my point wrong.

I just was pointing out the opposite, make Hamman play instead of Alonso against CHELSEA, for instance, so that Alonso can be fresh for the next game. Plus, it would be a good insult. We, 5 cup holders, do not send our best team anywhere, let alone european underachievers :)

And yes, not making embarrasing performance is important, but if Hamman plays, we might not be perhaps so inspirated, but we'd still have the rock solid defensive display that has provided us so many clean sheets.

Another reason to send the best is money, I do not remember but there's quite a lot of money for points in the CL

Ah, well I don't know. Alonso does have 2 yellow cards and he would probably get booked against Chelsea like last time.

Another reason why we should send our best team is that 1st place guarantees that the first leg of the next round will be played at home which is an advantage imo.

Ah, good point.

Anyway I'd love to see some stats about that supposed advantage, here aswell is regarded an advantage, but it's really given for granted, I don't know if the stats along the years back that supposition.

Well look at the games we played last season. We played Leverkusen and Juventus at home first, and that was comforting in a way. Where as we played Chelsea at Stamford Bridge and got a 0-0 result, the game at Anfield was a bit more nerveracking because of it.

Benitez says he prefers to play away first though. There is no real guarantee of winning.
