Would you sacrifice 4th spot?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

It has been hinted that if we don't achieve 4th spot, GH could be on his way at the end of the season.

As much as i love my team, for the first time in years i am actually hoping we miss out on the CL spot, to force the departure of GH.

Whats worse...4th spot and GH for another struggling season?

or 5th or 6th spot and a fresh start?

It pains me to say,.. i would prefer the fresh start! :(

I'd rather have 4th spot and the departure of houllier.

But since you said to chose between CL and houllier leaving I would have to say CL.
Theres no guarantee that even if we finish fourth that we'd get into the champions league.
There are some very good teams in the qualifires.

Just to add in that it would seriously damage a great club like liverpool to miss out on CL football for two years in a row.

Its crazy in my opinion to hope we finish 5th in the further hope that it accelerates GH's departure :( Has it really reached such a level that FANS are ven contemplating this scenario ??? CL is a must and for those that think we wont do any good I say "i'd rather see us  try and fail than not have a chance at all !!!!!!!!! ???

I'm a critic of Houllier but I wouldn't say I would want for us to finish 5th so that he would get the sack (he probably won't get the boot anyway regardless of what happens this season).

However, I do understand why some people ask whether its a good idea to take one step backwards to take two steps forwards.

If I had a magic ball which convinced me that we would go on to winning major trophies under a new manager if we got rid of Houllier I might be prepared to say that I wish we finish 5th to get rid of Houllier, but there's no guarantee that the next manager will be any better.

We need CL, or we won't keep players like Owen or buy any new good players. We need the money and the rep.

This has been much debated on these boards. I for one, have wondered on several occasions if it would be a good thing to finish 5th if it guaranteed the manager going but we need champ league football next season. I really hope we can sneak 4th place but i am quickly losing faith that we can manage even that. Looking at the games we have to go, we should beat Fulham this weekend but every other game looks a struggle - I can't see us getting much away to the Mans or at Brum. Middlesborough will be diificult to break down and anything could happen on the last day of the season should we hyave anything to play for. :(

I agree, it may be out of his hands though. I will be p1ssed off if he finishes fifth and stays though

Would love to finish 4th and for GH to go but I've got a nasty feeling we'll not manage either and finish 5th and GH will stay. Nightmare  :(  :(

The fact that any supporter of Liverpool Football Club would want to finish in a lower league position in the hope that this makes the board change managers beggars beleif.

You say you want Houllier out because we are so far behind Arsenal, yet you would be happy to see us finish one place lower ?

What's the point of CL when we go out in the qualifying round ?......(because we will ).
I would rather avoid the enbarrasment (and further loss of reputation). Wipe the board clean and start again with renewed hope.
At the moment we are viewed by the top sides in europe as "has beens".........capable of a one off good performance but well past our sell by date.

Its called looking at the bigger picture.  :;):

I have finally come to terms with the fact that Gerrard has had enough chances. I think we are on a slippery slope, and it could easily spell disaster in the next season or two.

I can handle being beaten, as long as the players give 110% and work for each other. The heart is not there, and to me that is a management problem.

And do any of you really believe that just because we clinch 4th spot - all of a sudden we become an atractive proposition for new quality signings?  Madness!!

A quality player will look beyond the final league position - before committing his future.

Just to add..

A lot of people have said " We need champions league football next year"

I can only imagine you mean for financial reasons.  Because's carrying our current form into Europe could be very embarressing. (There are teams MORE scarey than Charlton in Europe!)

Did you know that points wise, we are closer to Wolves than Arsenal? :(

GET REAL

Get real?  it is becoming a reality.  Never mind the top three...at this moment, Villa and Newcastle are playing better than us largely due to better management because their players are not better than ours.  Get real?  We lost to Southampton, Portsmouth, struggled against the mighty Sofia of Bulgaria, and lost to Charlton at home for the first time in 50 years.  Some idiot is making 5th, 6th, or the inter toto cup a reality for us.
