very sad that another police officer has been murdered in england.

this is a woman who wanted to better both herself and her community, she went to a robbery under equipped for what she was about to meet, she lost her life and her colleague was seriously injured.

having been in the police and looked down the barrel of  a shotgun myself one night i am all aware of the frailty the police have when dealing with violent crminals. i see people have been arrested
anyway next time one of you slags of the police think about the dangers they face every day and think about this poor womans family and what they are going through.

People tend to forget this. We hear too much bad press about the police yet almost all of them take some great risks at some stage of their career. A police officer routinely has to deal with violence on a Saturday night, be it drunken brawling outside a pub or a nasty domestic row in which a drunken husband will beat seven bells out of his wife and threatens to do the same to any cop that enters his house.

Occasionally you will come across a dangerous case of a mentally ill person threatening people with a firearm. The police (and medical staff) put themselves in the line of fire to protect the rest of us from getting hurt.

Of course there are a few bad eggs but the same goes for every profession. There are dodgy lawyers out there, incompetent doctors, cowboy builders, lazy and disinterested retail staff, lousy cooks, rude doorstaff and rubbish teachers yet the cops always get worst press.

PC Beshenivsky, 38, who had three children and two stepchildren, was killed on her youngest daughter Lydia's fourth birthday as she arrived at the raid in a travel agent's shop on Morley Street on Friday.

Mr Beshenivsky, a landscape gardener, said: "It breaks my heart to think I will never hear her infectious laugh again, to think she won't be here to see our children grow.

"When Sharon left for work on Friday it was such a happy day.

"Our youngest daughter Lydia was celebrating her fourth birthday and she waited excitedly for her mum to come home."

3 children will grow up without their mother now due to :censored: petty criminals again  :no

Being from Belfast i find it hard to grasp policemen/women not carrying guns!
Theres peace here now but ALL police still carry a personal protection firearm all the time on duty and off duty if its felt they need it!
Its hard to believe with the growing gun culture in England that the police are sent out daily into potential violence that they have no means to protect themselves!
What goods a baton faced with a gun??
Its A disgrace and part of the blame lies at the feet of the government for sending them out there like sitting ducks!

Sometimes difficult to find the right words PeeWee, All to often the  emergency services are attacked by the scum in our society . In this instance a police officer has sacrificed her life whilst carrying out her duties .

About time we brought back the death penalty imo.

R.I.P Mrs. Beshenivsky!! :(

People need to realise this is a reality of the job, and my opinion is the newer police officers today are enticed by money first, rather than a passion for the job and all it entails!  I do have personal evidence of this, though this is not the time or place for it!!

it's terrible how someone can shoot 2 unarmed coppers just doing their job, but the worst thing is the off-the-cuff manner in which it seems to have been done. evidently life is very cheap to some criminals

i don't know if routinely arming police officers is the answer though, it could just raise the stakes higher and encourage more and more crims to go to a job "tooled up" thereby increasing the chances of coppers/innocent members of the public getting shot

i like the way that as a nation we're not big on gun-carrying, it sets us apart from a lot of other western countries where even traffic wardens seem to pack one

Its a real bad job ,as lynzey pointed out - theres now a wee 4 yr old left with no mother , scumbags they are -if anyone has kids of their own they will know how dreadful that is. Im sure she was maybe making plans for xmas - something in the law must change. Bring back hanging-when proved guilty without any doubt-if some of these scum seen a few necks breaking theyd think twice.

It's awful what happened, and I have to agree with Barry, also being from Belfast I can't believe that cops in England are not armed.  I'm sure there are more guns on the streets in England than there are in Northern Ireland these days.

The fellas who did this should be locked up for a long time, no doubt they'll get some ridiculous punsihment, the legal systems im most western countries are too lax.

Very Sad indeed. R.I.P Sharon Beshenivsky.

apparantly they are interviewing some somalians over the killing.

its about time we armed the police, and started to get a grip with immigration.

that will do two things

1. allow officers to defend themselves against any life threat, no matter who they are
2. allow this country to control the obvious nutters that are seeping into the country under false pretences.

some may say that is easier said than done, but TBH i feel so strong on the matter, it would be easier just to do it. Our citizens etc, need protection. If the government cant do it, then who can??
