What, do you mean Australia can't qualify against the likes of UAE, Japan, Korea, China, Iran (bad memories here, let's not mention Iran), Indonesian & India...

Give me a break sunshine!!

I don't think Australia have a great team or anything, but good luck to them. Harry was great. Still don't like to see him take all those dives, though.

mate, australia played the national uruguayan diving team. Alvaro recoba said it was the divine right of uruguay to get to the finals.....well, johnny warren was smiling from above and helped us with abit of divine intervention. i no you guys are pationate but wake up and smell the roses. an example is cant remember whom from the diving team it was but when he went down he covered his eyes and then did a sly picka boo to see what the ref was going to give. Divine right my :censored:!    :buttrock

Poor gamesmanship too. The ball pressure, the time wasting, diving, the coach not throwing the ball to Kewell for a throw in, yea, we really would have enjoyed Urgay being in the biggest stage of all. NOT.

GO YOU AUSSIES>>>>>>>>>>

Do you know what I dislike about the majority of the Australian fans?? How they critize Uruguay for negative tactics
and for playing rough, but turn a blind eye to their own team. I've been reading this thread, and other sports websites where people have get to thave their say - it's all the same thing. You people are biased. I'm a Uruguay supporter (American, though. I don't even live in Uurguay. Living in Argentina for now.) I won't deny anything bad said about Uruguay if I know the people who are saying it are right in what they say. Uruguay plays rough, they have a reputation for it. They can be poor sports if they lose, and anyone coming to Uruguay to play will certainly be shown no respect. I won't deny any of this, Australians have torealize that their team and supporters are no better and have no room to look down. First off, Harry was in a league of his own in regards to diving in these games. Blatantly did it several times. This is a fact, for anyone to deny that is absurd. The Uruguayans looked for a foul, but I don't remember any incidents where they blatantly dove. Maybe they did, but I honestly don't remember seeing it. I missed a couple of minutes here and there of the second leg attending to something or other, but yeah. The time wasting?? Your team did the same exact thing in Montevideo. I was at the game.  The crowd went insane several times because of it.  The biggest thing that annoyed me is when I saw someone (not here) refer to the Uruguayans as "butchers".I thought that was hilarious. Australia played just as rough, if not rougher than Uruguay. They targeted Forlan, and an Australian "accidentally" knocked into him while running full speed.  I don't know if this was shown on TV or not. This forced him to leave the match. He didn't even have the ball. Popovic (I think that's his name??) purpposely elbowed Recoba in the head. He should have been sent off. Same goes for the defender who fouled Regueiro near the area. If there was a good ref for the second leg, this game would have been totally different. Each team would have definitely finished with 10 men atleast. See how I don't turn a blind eye?? Gonzalo Rodriguez got lucky with Cahill etc. Your team were no better, though. There is one butcher in the
Urugayan team that I would never defend, though. Sosa. The guy is an animal. Embaurrasment. I hate seeing him play, you
know he's going to do something stupid. Anyway, Recoba was wrong publically saying that. I don't like it when teams or players are cocky. I loved it when Ronaldinho and Deco were made to feel stupid about their comments about English teams  last year in the Champions league. I think Uruguay did have a right to go to the World Cup. They have a good footballing history, passionate country and fans, and they had more than enough talent to do so. I blame the coach, like I said. Shouldn't even of had to play this play-off with the team Uruguay have. Anyway, in regards to commenting on the opposition and what not - Aloisi is a class act. Always respectful. Speaking as someone who went to the game in Uruguay and saw how the Australians were treated, I'm sure whatever you guys did it was nothing compared to what you got. People were even lining up to insult your bus when it came past when you entered the country and made your route to places and what not, your players got booed and hissed at when they came out to warm up and everything the whole time, when your keeper was warming up each time the ball got past him and went into the net...the crowd screamed "GOAL!!" to :censored: with him,  and they booed your anthem, and several times the whole crowd sang the famous disrespectal chant of "A estos putos les tenemo que ganar". I'm sure what you guys did was nothing in comparison.  :D

p.s. Sorry if I sound like a sore loser. Just pointing some stuff out.

Wasn't aware the Uruguayan fans behaved so badly as well. Although two wrongs don't make a right, I understand why the aussies booed the anthem now.

LFC #1 wrote:Bigmick is spot on here, and I also agree with laza about the throat-slitting thing with the new haka (Kapa o Pango), I don't like it at all. They've only done that haka once though, the general consensus is that the traditions of Ka Mate should be kept.

As for turning your back on the haka to trivialise it, how :censored: stupid that was. I remember the Australians doing it in Wellington I nbaout 1997 and we beat you by 40 points, how clever it was to disrespect the haka like that.

52299818, Go to South Auckland and say booing the haka is ok, just because Australia discredits the culture of its natives, doesn’t mean you can disrespect ours.

You may have a point if only the Maori team members did the haka, but to have a bunch of white skinned guys doing it removes any requirement for respecting ancient customs and traditions. You can hardly say the haka is a tradition for Anglo Saxon white ppl born in NZ.

From memory, Maori tribes did the haka to scare off these very guys that came to NZ and killed most of them off.

So dont go giving history lessons to the Aussies when you dont exactly know your own
