Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

I’ve been a supporter for the last 30 odd years and like many of you on this and many other forums are torn between the managers decisions, the players ability and loyalty to the club. Also like many others I yearn for the days when Liverpool and fortress Anfield a place to feared.

I don’t doubt that many of the players are very good and in some other team/league would excel. However, to me Liverpool is not some other team or least it never used to be. I think GH has taken the club forwards but is now struggling against our past achievements and future expectations based on those achievements.

So what is the problem and what is the solution? I don’t know, if I did I’d be managing the club. I am slightly concerned with one direction the club seems to have taken.
In a previous post someone questioned why they do not do a pre match huddle. A fairly recent pre match ritual but now gone. But why don’t the players touch the Anfield board as they go down the steps onto the pitch? To me this was an indication of the players mind set. Club traditions make the club and mould the player. Why have they stopped? Is this just another game, another job? I do not for one minute question whether the players want to win but why do they want to win? Because they have to, its what they’re paid for?? Or because its Liverpool and no-one beats us and God help anyone that tries it.
Vince Lombardi once said that “ I don’t choose my 11 best players, I choose my best 11” or something like that, you get my drift.
