Is hamann right for us - Hamann doesnt do enough

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

I dont think hamann does enough he never moves out of the centre circle, scores the odd fluke, loses the ball too easy, look at the arsenal game. Our midfielders of old used to get 10 goals at least. Do we really want that next year?

Its simple, if we want to keep hyppia and carragher, then must keep hamann. If we are to sell hamann, we need a new defence.

I don't think he's the first player I would look to get rid of right now; more like one of the ones I'd want to keep a bit longer.

You are taking the p#ss?

First Kewell and now Didi Hamann?

Manc.

Loses the ball to easily does he mate?

Little stat for you now... last season a 97% pass completion. That is a stat that doesn't lie. His movement and attacking drive lacks at times but defensively he's absoloutely top class.

The best players in that team in order are....

Stevie Gerrard and Micheal Owen
Harry Kewell
Sami Hyypia
Didi Hamann

and you've slagged off two of them so far... who's next?

I personally don't think Hamann is the right player, in that respect i thought u had a point, i'd have a play maker next to Stevey Gerrard but at the moment we can't afford to replace the better players. Its the dead wood we should be looking to replace and he's certainly not dead wood.

For once Stu I'd have to agree with you!  :)

Hamann's a good player and there's plenty should be out the door before anyone should start thinking about selling him.

whats up with you bakes slagging all the best players
next you''ll be saying get rid of Gerrard or Owen.

Hamann is one of our best players.
He is a defensive midfielder and wins the balls and makes vital challenges.
Having him in the team allows gerrard to attack since he know hamann is covering to defend. Same as makalele and lampard.

Hamann I think is houlliers best purchase or at least is level with kewell. He is class so f**k off.

Hamann is the holding player in midfield, it's hardly fair to blame him for not scoring 10 goals a season.  How many do Vieira, Makele and Keane score as holding players?  I certainly don't think getting rid of Hamann is going to solve anything.  Who can we bring in from within the squad or from elsewhere to take his place?  He's certainly a must for the near future.

How about JOHN WELSH and Alou Diarra ? I hear they are good players but are they ready to play in the first 11 and replacement Hamann ? Or how about buying Joey Barton ? What do think guys ?

There is no-one in the squad (at the moment) who has the ability to replace Hamann.

All teams need a player such as Didi, helping the defence, breaking attacks up.  I personally rate him very highly as a holding midfielder IMO I hope he is not sold off, as he would no doubt be replaced by the new Patrick Viera...........

Gerrard is a defensive midfielder, work rate, tackling, aggression, strength, athletisism are all defensive qualitys.

He does that in his natural game so we don't really need Hamann in there.

I'm sick of this holding role. It pisses me off. There shouldn't be a holding role. Gerrard should go and play in central midfield and play like Steven Gerrard and he should have a play maker who works hard (Similar to Scholes) in there with him and we'll be laughing.

The thing is though, Hamann is a class player and probably one of the last players we should be looking to replace at the moment.

I prefer to see Stevie G going forward, leaving Didi to help the defence! IMO Having said that Stevie G is pretty much the complete midfielder and could play in any team, we just need a few more like him!

bpm1976 you are missing the point of what i am saying.

Gerrard doesn't have a role I.E. play maker, ball winner or winger. His role should simpley be... "be Steven Gerrard".

With that you get a natural ball winner who will protect the defence, push the team forward and drive on from deep and midfield positions. He doesn't need Hamann in the side to play like he is doing.

We need a play maker in there with him. As i said his strengths aren't technique, skill, passing, visionn and dribbling. While he is EXTREMELY good in these areas he isn't as good in these as he is the defensive side of his game.

Keane mixed the roles as Gerrard is doing now. We need our "Paul Scholes (who also mixes the roles)" before we can contemplate changing the style.

The point is you have one who speciallises in one area and one who specialises in another. Hamann and Gerrard specialise in the same areas.

Stu, i totally agree with you mate.  i've been banging on about the same sort of thing about Haman for a while now.  He makes us too defensive.  Gerrard should be in the middle with a playmaker (when Murphy is in form and plays in there with Stevie it always looks so much better to me).

l would like to see Cheyrou given a long run alongside Stevie or bring in someone like Joe Cole.  These players need to be given a proper run in the team though.

I disagree that sorting out the situation in the middle of the park is not a priority though.  I think this is the thing that is at the route of our problems.  Haman's presence in the side allows us to have slow defenders and we lose the drive a top team should have.

For fear of getting the same sort of grief you lot gave Bakes (i've not read all his posts so don't know if he is manc scum - lol) he is near the top of my list of players that drive me mad in games.  He's not far behind Traore, Biscan and Diouf in my book...sorry.
