Rafalution has gone tits up

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby Paul C » Wed Oct 26, 2005 11:50 am

I'm starting to get sick of making excuses now, in the CL Rafa is a real magician but in the league/domestic cups things are shi.te, with the squad we have we shouldn't be in the position we are and we shouldn't have finished 5th last year with a load of loses under our belts, the main worry for me is that no one is scoring and we really can't afford to keep up with this.

You read it wrong, its always about trying to make yourself out as a better supporter than everyone else cus you went to or know about or embrace games from the glorious past of this club.

We all get it wrong sometimes (every close season with you) and the passion we have about the club can not be measured by how much we embrace or know about the past mate.

I respect you a lot, but to try and be little me rather than take up the discussion is sad mate.

By your reckoing, how far do we go back, cus we where in the 2nd division once, so to be in the top flight is progress using your theory.

Fact of the matter is, Rafa has not just inherited Shanks or Uncle bob's squad, he picks up the team after years of mis management at various levels. To think its just a matter of buying two players and working with the others for twelve months and they suddenly play like we did in the olden days is naive.

Anyone who says that Shaks or Uncle Bob would turn in their grave after the magic of Istanbul is clueless.

You have to look at it rationally mate. If a man can win the biggest cup in club football with our (mediocre to average) team last year, and win the spanish league with Valencia against the might of Barca and Real two out of three years then he MUST have the right credentials to mount a challenge here for us.

He simply must have the time to assemble the squad that he wants, and to assert upon the players the way that he wants things to be done.

There is not (as JBG mentioned) a magic formula or wand or lucky rabbits foot to rub that will make this happen overnight.

Our targets this season must surely be:

1)     Finish above Arsenal, Man United or both.
2)     Close the gap on top spot to 3-4 (5 at the most) wins
3)     Progress in europe to the semis or better
4)     Maybe an FA cup final appearence

Did anyone really think we would challenge for the title this season ?

Do you blame the bullet ? blame the rifle ? blame the trigger ? or do you blame the guy on the trigger ?

Otherwise you can always blame the target !

What about the ballistics and the sight? Come to think about it, what about the guy who sold the bullets and the guy that made the gun? What about the grip on the gun, if this is faulty, then how can he fire a good shot?  :p

Well...i did have slight hope of finishing top before the season starts,  guess thats why its hurts more to see an early cup exit and shocking losses. Disappointments aside, i expect the team to bounce back at Westham.
Squad rotations isnt doing any good for us, its obvious our team doesnt have decent backups.

Remember when we got knocked out the cup to Burnley last season?
Everyone was slagging off Rafa then too. We hadn't been too clever in the CL either.
For me personally, Rafa will turn it around eventually.
But it wont happen overnight.

The CL final was won with the grit and determination of Stevie Gerrard and he is still carrying the team now.Dudek was also of course a star that night and look what benitez done to him.Cisse hardly gets a start because he favours the spanish morientes.the excuses will continue and we are becoming everybodys favourite laughing stock.
