I think that we should take this competition seriously, as by the way we are playing it may be the best chance of winning a trophy all season???

Rafael Benitez is expected to make some changes for the Carling Cup clash with League One side Crystal Palace. But the changes won't be on the same scale as last year when almost the whole side changed.

Jamie Carragher is expected to be rested, although captain Steven Gerrard is likely to return to the side after 3 games out.

David Raven is expected to get another chance to impress in this competition at right back. That may mean a switch to centre back for Josemi - where Zak Whitbread is likely to get a chance also.

Midfielder Darren Potter is in line for some action, and forward Sinama Pongolle should get another chance.

Benitez has said he will field a strong side against a team the Reds lost to last season in the Premiership. "All competitions we want to win and we will have a strong team out at Crystal Palace. We had some bad away games last year and we lost at Palace. We know they play as a team, they are good workers and we know it will be a physical game.

"For us it's the next match and the most important game. As always we go there looking to win the game and get through to the next round."

As much as we all want a whitewash, the way we're playing at the moment your more likely to see a hard-fought 1-0

I think our season starts tonight, I really do. Rafa has had a good look at last saturdays game and does not want a repeat of last years mistakes. I think we needed that defeat to slap us in the face and remind us that we need to earn results. Roll on tonight.

I dont think tonights match will be by any means easy.
Palace are going to be up for this big time and looking forward to proving themselves  against a prem team.Ian Dowie is a good manager and will not have any problem motivating his team tonight. They may fancy their chances after our result on saturday...
On the other hand our mixture of youth and experience should work well.A few young lads out tonight given a rare chance to make their mark and prove themselves will hopefully work their socks off
So hopefully should be an interesting game.
2-0 the Pool

Tonight might only bre the Carling Cup but for are players tonight means a lot more. Are players are going out there tonight with an awful lot to prove. They have had a bollocking from Rafa and he has come out publicly belated them for there sub-standard performances so they should need no motivation for getting up for this game tonight.

The fans have had a go, the press have and now Rafa has, and things must start to be put right on the pitch starting tonight. The players know the weekend wasnt good enough and wont need telling again and they can put that to bed, somewhat, by demolishing Palace and *Crouch, do us all a favour mate AND SILENCE THOSE FU*KING CRITICS AND FU*KING OPPOSITION FANS.

Come on you redmen!!!!!!

*Thats if he plays!!!
