Gunners eye Kirkland move

Liverpool's on-loan West Brom goalkeeper Chris Kirkland has emerged as a potential transfer target for Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger.

Wenger is still on the lookout for a top class stopper, with Jens Lehmann and Manuel Almunia not considered long-term options for the club.

The Gunners chief will have have been hugely impressed with Kirkland's display in the 2-1 defeat of his side at the Hawthorns on Saturday and could decide to swoop in the January transfer window.

However, Baggies boss Bryan Robson is looking to make the England squad member's temporary move into a permanent one and will hope to thwart his opposite number at Highbury.

Kirkland is almost certain to leave Anfield after the Reds signed Jose Reina and Scott Carson earlier this year.

once upon a time they used to come to liverpool to achieve greatness... now it seems all too often they leave us to find it.  :(

i hope this isnt to become a reality in january. but you cant help but blame the lad.

If he goes thats fine by me.  Too injury prone and never semed to cope with the pressure of playing at a big club like Liverpool.

Been good for West Brom but he'd struggle at Arsenal, there'd be a lot more pressure on him there.

If we get 3-4 million in January I'd take that.  5 million the papers are saying, thanks very much.

Yeah they do leave us to achieve greatness dont they......oh who is Kirkland playing for again?? Come on lads theres gonna be loads of rumours from now till January and cos some nobed puts 2 and 2 together and gets 5 to make a story up (Kirkland on his way out, Arsenal need a keeper, i know a story i can make up).

If you want another rumour, Robbie Keane will get linked with Everton at least 5 more times before january cos there not scoring and he aint playing. Chelsea will get linked with a world class striker, Man u with a center mid, probably Ballack on more than one occasion. See footy Jornalists have nothing to do till January so they need to make sh!t up. They just make stuff up which anyone knows could happen then bang 6 months later it happens and out of 300 rumours printed, 1 actually happens and it will say "remember where you seen it 1st" on the back pages or on its site.

Cant wait for the day one of the Welsh Wizzards rumours come off though, im still waiting for Metzelder and Owen to arrive!!!

the post is a rumour yes, though i intended to make my position clear over kirkland more than anything else be it rumour or truth. the fact that 'if' he goes doesnt lessen the suspected loss of a good player...or is it just rumour that he is one?

Raffa should offer to swap him for that young Sendros...what a player he's gonna be.
Doubt Wenger would see it as a bargain though.. :D

Kirkland has had too many injury problems during his time at Anfield. I still think that young Scott Carson is much better than him.

If so, bye Kirkland. Good luck at Arsenal because there will be huge pressure on him.

He is a good player but he's not our first choice ,he certainly had his chances but recurring injuries spoilt his time with us .If we get a decent offer we should sell him , the only alternative is to keep him out on loan until his contract expires which obviously wouldn't make sense .

Often keepers look better at smaller clubs. This is beacuse they are much more involved in the game, having to pull off save after save, so they are always 100% concentrated. However, at bigger clubs they often have very little to do in an entire match and if they lose concentration at a pivotal point, then they find that all they have done for the entire match is pick the ball out of the net on one or two occasions.

Kirkland is a good keeper, don't get me wrong, but he had plenty of chances with us and never really looked like the "future england number one". He was soild, but not awe-inspiring. The only clubs that have really top keepers in the Premiership are Chelsea (Cech), Spurs (Robinson), Man U (Van der Sar), Newcastle (Given) and perhaps Villa (Sorensen).

Of course the link could well be spurious, but if it was on, who would you like to exchange for Kirkland ?

I wouldn't mind a bit of cash plus Bently.
