OVER AND OUT, DIDI
By Alan Nixon
DIDI HAMANN has quit the German national side - to try to keep his place in the Liverpool team.

Midfield veteran Hamann was overlooked by Jurgen Klinsmann for his latest squad in the build-up to hosting the World Cup finals.

And Hamann has decided to call an end to his international career and 'concentrate totally' on his Kop future.

Hamann, who won 57 caps, had been back in the German plans recently but was slammed for his show in a pre-season friendly when he was regaining his fitness.

Klinsmann axed him after that game and Hamman has reluctantly announced his retirement.

You really have to love Didi for doing this, putting Liverpool before his country as he's not getting any younger and knows he wont be able to do the two, escpecially smoking 20 cigs a day :D

jurgen klinnsman must be a utter fool not to select the kaiser for his  holding midfield role,no german can match hamann for that role and it will be germany,s lossin the summer

you have to admire him.. for whatever reasons, a german international who decides to concentrate on his club before the national team, in any world cup year is measure, both of how 'self-less' and 'loyal' the man is. even if that world-cup is in his native land!  :bowdown

didi certainly is a breath of fresh air. there a lot of players who should take notice of what he has done when the big money men come calling

wow joey barton is a decent player really. going to a big club like ours would make him a better player.

objective words aside, like fu.ck i want a swap! i want hamann to stay (though only as a decent cover for the midfield - he no longer can last one whole match).

furthermore, i hate barton. what kind of a man would stub a cigar in someone's eye? geez, he's a criminal.

Strange thing about this is that Didi signed an extension with us cos he reckoned playing for the European champions would increase his chances of World cup selection. He said so in an interview a couple of months back. How come the World cup  was important then but not now ???

Germany's loss as far as I'm concerned. Didi has been excellent again so far this season when given a game.
