Under Rafa Traore is improving all the time and should be given more time to do that.
Alonso over hyped ,Finnan doesnt do anything and now Traore whos next ?

Even though i criticised Traore its good to see some fans behind him.
I still feel he is not good enough though.
Rafa has improved him without doubt, like he has with most of the poor squad he inherited.
I put in my post he is a squad player at best, but again i think stu's point was valid, Riise is a better back up left back than Traore.
He does provide cover to the centre halves i accept that, and he probably is on a low wage, so i dont mind him staying and will get behind him if he plays.
But if any of you are honest, does it give you confidence when he is in the starting line up ?
The criticism of Finnan and Alonso on this forum imo is unfair, but with Traore there is a point to what Stu has said.
And at the end of the day its a discussion forum where alot of peoples views should differ.

I don't believe he's good enough for the squad though. Thats my point.

Himself and Cisse aren't upto it.

Reina, Dudek, Kirkland, Carson. Nothing wrong with that. 2 decent keepers in Reina and Dudek and decent enough backup in Carson.

Finnan and Josemi. Josemi can do a job for the odd game.

Carragher and Hyypia. I worry if ones injured long term, but Whitbread could fill in in the odd match.

Warnock and Riise. Sound. Wouldn't touch it.

Right midfield NEEDS addressing.

Riise, Zenden and Luis Garcia. we can live with that.

Gerrard, Alonso, Sissoko and Hamann. Probably the best four in europe, certainly not far off.

Crouch, Morientes, Sinama-Pongolle, Luis Garcia. Great mix with good abilities. I wouldn't tinker with that to much.

Cisse, Traore to be sold. Kewell given one last chance because i'm a :censored: idiotic mug even though i KNOW he'll NEVER come good.

I think Traore's OK. He's got pace, can tackle, head and is difficult to get past. I think he will one day make a good centre-half, though I am fully aware that I'm in the significant minority. At the moment, he would be my first choice left-back infront of Warnock.

I think Warnock needs 1st team games to improve.  He's got ability, hence he's been picked for the England squad, but he needs more expirence.  Traore is a useful squad player and shouldn't be anything else in my opinion.

BigMick i think you probably will be in the minority mate, i have to disagree about the heading, he is poor in the air for such a tall player and nearly cost us a few times not clearing basic back post headers last season, i remember one againsy Juventus and one in the final against Milan.
He is fast and sometimes can be difficult to get past one on one, and for that i would keep him as a squad member, but i dont think he is anywhere near reliable enough for first team football.
And tbh mate i would have nightmares if he played centre half.

I'd go along with selling Cisse if some decent money comes along. And shipping Kewell out would be fantastic considering his £ 65k per week pay package. He is not worth that + he is always injured. But selling Traore is a mistake. What could we get for him ? £ 1 million pounds? That's not enough to find a good replacement, and we are likely to sign a couple of expensive players in january. I would guess a squad player like him will get around 20 games this season. Last season when we had injuries we had to play Pellegrino at left back. Traore provides valuable cover at a fair price. Get over it, and focus on other things.

Yeah he was dreadful  when he played there under Houllier I got to admit. There's just something... something there Ace which makes me think he'll make a player. It's quite tough for me to put my finger on it, it's just a notion but quite a strong one. We'll just have to differ on it mate. In fairness to the topic starter, Stu, he never has rated him and always digs me out when I stick up for Djimi. One day the big fella will prove me right though, I'm sure of it.   :;):

Thats what we need BigMick faith in all our players.
Its good to see, and also good to have reasoned debate.

Traore is a very good tackler. Unfortunately he does appear to lack actualy footballing abililty. He cant seem to control the ball or run with it. I know this is going to get slated, but I not sure how i can explain it. Its because he actualy tries and plays football that he comes in for so much stick. I think his long lanky legs get in the way of him doing anything skilful. But when it comes to last ditch tackling and gettin the foot in to stop the ball, then he is very very good at that!

i think warnock is a better left back...i would have him ahead of traore anyday...some of traores tackles are class but he usually has to do them becoz hes fu*cked up...in his defence hes probably more of a centre half, but as some people have said when he plays left back he leaves hyypia exposed which can cost us at times...think warnock is developing into a gem of a player...would have him as 1st choice left back
