Ivan helguera - Bosman at the end of the season?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby stmichael » Tue Sep 20, 2005 1:49 pm

Ivan Helguera has hinted that he may leave Real Madrid at the end of the current season.

The Spain international is in the final year of his contract at El Santiago Bernabeu and has yet to receive the offer of a new deal from the Primera Liga club.

The defender's situation is being monitored by clubs in The Premiership - with Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United and Newcastle United all thought to be suitors of the Santander-born player.

Barcelona and Italian champions Juventus are also thought to be interested in Helguera, who played in Real's 1-0 defeat at Espanyol on Sunday evening.

With the uncertainty over his future at Real, the 30-year-old admits he may be heading for the exit door next summer.

"With the way things are, I see myself more on the way out than staying in Madrid," stated Helguera.

It's simple really. Would you want him at our club or not? I've never been convinced by him as a central defender to be honest (mainly because he started out as a central midfielder) and he's not the quickest. Also, the fact that he'll be on a free means that his wages will be ridiculously high.

Thoughts?

Not for me Michael

The way I see it we need a replacement for sami sooner rather than later not just a cover player whos getting on a bit-
We must buy an established class CD with a few years left in him- CD is not one of the positions that gets rotated much so its vital we buy someone whos up to the job with good passing skills
(somthing that sami sadly lacks)

the player i'd want to see is christian chivu from roma. the guy's absolutely top class and left footed aswell. he used to be captain of ajax.

roma are virtually bust and would have to sell for a decent price.

No thanks.

Another of those head scratching midfield to CB converts in the Igor mould.

he's just using our name, and other, to get himself a new highly paid contract at real anyway.

I must say I am in total agreement, from what I have seen of him he looks the right man for the job.

I reckon a substansial bid in the January transfer window the region of £9m - £10m could prise him away, and this could be re-couped by getting thru the CL group stages, thus leaving us with the same transfer kitty we had left in the summer for the purchase of a right winger and or striking cover.

The jan window will solve our RW-CD & 4th striker problems-

Hopefully these Madrid want Rafa rumours will force the boared to accept outside investment (ie Kraft) so that Rafa can go about his rebuilding with less monatary constraints come jan

helguera is basically  :censored: as a cb ,he is slow ,has no positional sense and is a defensive midfielder, real madrid defensive problems started when he was converted to a centre back and  if he moves to another club it will be as a defensive midfielder, why would we sign him with  our better hamann and sissoko as our d midfielders
