Buy big - Class acts, not the usual suspects

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Its time for Liverool to go sh*t or bust next season we need special players for a special team not players for the future ,a team for now ,so heres a break down of what we need ,firstly in defence i consider Leverkusens Lucio a class act ,Trabelsi from Ajax before the mancs snap him up,and in midfield id break the bank for Portos Deco truly a unique playmaker ,and this might be a name not as familiar as the rest but Martin Jorgenson for Udinese is the most promising winger ive clocked since Giggs ,up front id go for Ajax's Ibrahimovic as the perfect foil for Owen ,Im still undecided on Cisse the french league is'nt exactly known for being the most competitive in the world ,but he doe's look pacy .Just a few players that are not the usual suspects the media continually shoves down our throats

One of the first players I'd go for is Hasselbaink. OK, massive wages but cheap/Bosman (not sure when his contract's up at Chelski) and a proven goalscorer at premiership level. He's getting on a bit but still has at least one top-class season left in him

I think if we're gonna put our balls on the line and buy big, then we buy big from the premiership. Who would you like to see from the prem? (barring the obvious unattainables like Henry etc)

Regardless of whether we buy Cisse I advocate signing:

Hassailbank on a two year contract
Malbranque
A pacy centre half: where we can get a good one I don't know, but Chelsea might let Gallas go if they buy another centre half in the summer.

Another player I have liked this season is Juninho of Lyon. The guy has been amazing in the CL, although the jury is out about his ability to play in the Premiership.
Jolly Bob Grumbine.

Any player we purchase in the summer is most likely to come from outside the premiership as clubs have a tendency to charge exhorbitant prices in todays inflated transfer market,so i suspect Liverpool to do their shopping mainly outside the prem with their one exception being Shaun Wright Philips maybe ,oh and another player i think could work with Owen is Madrids Morientes currently at Monaco  or Kluivert he's still only 27 and he has continually scored goals at the highest level ,but of the 20 million plus players ( here we go DREAMING ) id move heaven and earth to place Sociedads Xabi Alonso in our midfield with Stevie G , he's the most complete midfielder ive seen in years and its no suprise Real Madrid or Barcelona are current favourites ,but i can dream can't i   :) :) :)

Why stop there? Why not get Ronaldo and Nesta aswell?

What a fruitcake.

You really wanna take the risk of "doin a Leeds"?

Shows how much perspective you have. I'd rather the club stay were it is for the next 100 years than have to go through that.

No one is accepting medocrity.

We are simply being realistic. I don't expect us to win the league yet as we aren't good enough. Simple as that.

I don't expect the impossible. I think Houllier deserves a chance to show us he can turn this round and a freak season isn't the chance he deserves.

We'll see next season because he will still be here.

I'm getting Deja Vu listening to fans demanding we buy big. Maybe buying better would be a more accurate description. Under Dalglish and Roy Evans and more recently GH, Liverpool have made some serious serrors in the transfer market and lost a  huge amount of money in the process. ??? I'd favour going for proen quality such as Klaivert or Hassalbank tio hel pthe younger players like Baros, Pongo, Le Tellac and John Welsh if we dont sell him :(  Gary Mac brought more to LFC than the ability to play 90 mins a week. His experience was invaluable to players during his short but successful time. I know Hassalbank is a bit of a  loose cannon, some would argue Klaivert is too but i think they'd rise to the challenge and weigh-in with their share of goals to take the pressure off Michael. Walk on .....

Thanks Woolyback , I'm not here to win over opinion  just express my own . If it stikres a common thread with others then i'm pleased about that . For the record LFC do have some promising young players at the moment and perhaps aolder head could play a part in their development, I believe there is far too expectation on players such as Baros, Le Tellac etc.....if these lads dont get the encouragement and nurturing thier talent deserves then we fear burning them out. You only have to look at some of their faces especially at Anfield (sad to say) to see their feeling the pressure. I look forward to te days when that look is on the oppositions faces like it used to be when "THIS IS ANFIELD" and a vibrant kop were worth a goal a game !

Walk on .....

Well that's a positive move in the right direction, putting all my descendents through 100 years of mediocrity just to keep the french revolution going.

Again being petty and stupid.

I was clearly pointing out that going down the Leeds route isn't the way to go. But you, in all your stupidity and pettyness can't even agree with such a statement.

Well done supersub for again letting a personal vendetta get in the way of you talking sense. :)
