Right, as i've explained on another thread, the missus has got an iPod Shuffle. As such, I am under constant badgering to put girly sh!te tunes on it(and give her her due, a couple of decent ones as well). The problem I have is that I have put most of my collection under Window Media Player and can't be ar$ed having 2 media players running at the same time. Question is, how can I transfer the cd's that I have already put onto Windows Media Player into iTunes? Is it even possible?

Cheers in advance.....  :nod

Im pretty sure that it is possible...

The CD's that u have ripped onto your media player are automatically stored in a seperate file (usually titled with the name of the artist/band) which will be located in your 'My Documents' and most probably found in your 'My Music' file. Obviously depending on where you have the default set to, another possibility is that it is in your shared files somewhere!

Without being 100% sure, I think you can go into the file with the music u desire on it and highlight all of the songs, give them a right click and select 'open with >'  then  'choose program' and pick to open them with itunes.

Give it a go, its worth a try as you said it may save u the bother of ripping the CD's again!

FEENY Try this mate:
(BTW I dont know your computer ability, so will give in laymans, ok!)

*Open up iTunes, so it is ready for you.

*Go to START on bottom left, then go to SEARCH. (with the magnifying glass symbol next to it!)

*Click to search for 'PICTURES, MUSIC or VIDEO', then on next screen JUST tick the MUSIC box and start the search. (depending on how much music you got {and type} will determine the duration of the search).

*When search is over, it will show all the music files you have on the computer. It will also include any music that is for any other games or applications you have installed.(see below!)

*Now, right click on the area where all the files are and go to ARRANGE ICONS BY......and choose SIZE.

*The first lot of files will probably be miscellaneous files that are used by certain applications or games you have, just scroll down until you see the songs (they should be altogether now and not mixed up, with the smallest song file first, and the largest last!).

*Now highlight all the song files (or the ones you want to copy) and right click on them and select COPY

*Go to iTunes (preferably it will be open already!) and ensure you are in the LIBRARY. You CAN right click on this area (library) HOWEVER there is no PASTE option, so instead you have to press CTRL+V which is the shortcut for pasting. This should then put all the music into iTunes, but it will copy each one in, one by one, depending on how many songs the length of time will vary, eg; I reckon 500 songs would take 20mins-ish(roughly), no matter, however long it takes it will be easier than copying from CD FFS!!!!

Anyway mate, I hope that helps and sorts it out for ya, only thing is you will get the loving from yer missus for this......WHAT DO I GET EH??  :D

Cheers lads.

You were both right, in a way. I found all of my files in the way that Liv told me - only catch was, it wouldn't let me paste the songs across. It did however, show me the location of where my songs are stored, as Dom had mentioned.

So, I starts to add the files to my library, album by album, but still quicker all the same......

And the ba$tard thing tells me i've got to convert ALL the songs into WMA format, which will take me just as long as ripping the cds again!!!

I'm now trying to find another way around it - in the meantime, it looks like i'll be here for a while!! :(

Thanks again for the advice - any other tips on how to stop iTunes needing to convert the songs to WMA would be ace!!! :)

Anyway try going to the options in itunes (found under 'edit') then go to advanced and then import options. If ur files are already MP3 (or even if not, as they have come from CD so will be MP4 most likely) choose that encoder, MP3 will make the files a bit smaller and save you a bit of space too! The iTunes MP3 is decent anyway as its from Apple so you shouldnt lose any quality!
