Injuries hit Real Betis head of clash with Liverpool

Real Betis have injury problems as they wait to make their Champions League debut against reigning European champions Liverpool.

Although Lorenzo Serra Ferrer's side had a fortunate 1-0 win over Osasuna on Saturday, the win came at a price.

Left-back Luis Fernandez has been ruled out of Tuesday's game after pulling a muscle in his left leg.

He had to leave the pitch after just 27 minutes and will be out of action for three weeks.

Meanwhile, Brazilian forward Edu, who poses such a threat down the Betis left wing, is also out with a twisted knee.

Nevertheless, the best news for Liverpool is that Spain international winger Joaquin Sanchez is also doubtful for the game.

Joaquin had to be substituted after 71 minutes of Saturday's game after suffering a blow on the knee and, according to the Betis website, is doubtful.

'He will have his knee immobile for 48 hours to see how he evolves, but he is a serious doubt for the Champions League game,' admitted the club.

" Some people say football is a matter of life and death, I don't like this attitude, I can assure them, its much more serious then that "

- Billy Shanks.

lmao  :D

I'm glad they have injuries but at the same time Gerrard went off due to a suspected injury too, if they have a squad good enough to be in the CL they will have good enough replacements although it would be nice to see Joaquin in action but not against us  :;):

It's good news but they're still a good team non the less. I mentioned this in another thread, they beat Barcelona with their B squad without Joaquin and Edu. It's important that we don't underestimate them.

i think it is going to be us and betis fighting it out for the 2nd spot.

I know Betis quite a bit, since I watch them regularly at Anoeta. And they're dangerous. Their problem is that they're irregular, not constant. Real Sociedad can either beat them 2-0 in a lazy afternoon of the Beticians, and lose 3-0 if they have the day.

I don't think they'll go defensive in Sevilla. They'll attack with intensity if they can in the first 20 mins. It will be another game if we can bear their initial pressure. It will be very important not to commit unnecessary fouls, since Assunsao has the irritant tendency to nail excellent free kicks.

the bad news are, Liverpool is the most important UK team in Spain, no matter how good are doing Manure and Chelski in the last decade, and no matter that Liverpool is the current champion, Liverpool has LOTS of reputation in my country due to it's history. It's Bad News, because we can expect the most motivated Betis ever.

Anyway I'd put my money on Liverpool, PROVIDED that we give the 100%.

luis fernandez is not a problem we have another player in his possition, edu neither. Ferando can play, he is a good player.
I think the most important player is not mencioned in that post. He is Rivera he cant play (2 yellow cards) and assunçao need his help in the middle of the field. And im sure that joaquin will play  :buttrock . All his teammates say the same and the doctor thinks that he will play...

We usually score in the second half and we have problems in the last 15 min...

from what I've read, joaquin will not be playing....or at least, he won't start the game
