I didn't read it in the "tabloid bullsh1t". Why did he go to Inter Milan? He stated that playing for Liverpool is his dream and that the Premiership is where he would like to retire. So why go to Inter Milan after stating all that?

Then he's a mercanary. Do we want that sort of attitude at this club? If his dream is to play for Liverpool then money shouldn't matter, and if do you honestly think that Luis Figo would had gave it his all on a cold English night against the likes of Bolton,Blackburn,Everton,etc.....?

we should, and lets give him more than 9 months.

the time it has taken many fans to be "fed up" with Morientes.

Well i for one thought 7 million was well over the top for Crouch, considering what we thought we were buying at the time for Kewell and what we paid I rated Crouch at 4 million at a push.I hope i,m proved wrong :)

How come people think Josemi cost 3.5 mill when he only cost 2 ?
Rafa stated that only players good enough to play for the Chmpions of Europe would he spend big money on.
Well for one he signed Josemi last season...when we were not champions of europe, imo that just means he knows that we can attract a better calibre of player now.
Zenden i agree is not good enough to start, but was on a free and will improve the squad.
I wasn't happy that we didnt sign the players in the positions he highlighted initially but after the explanation he has gave, feel alot more comfortable that we wont be wasting stupid money again.

I think that Alonso, Garcia, Sissoko, Reina (all bigger money buys) have been excellent value and good additions to the club. Crouch I think will be a good addition but we have not seen enough of him but I trust Raffa's judgement. I agree with Benitez, and it shows he is in it for the long haul.

Some of us did not need an explanation Raffa!

I think Figo's move to Milan was heavily influenced by his "Model" Wife, so RB cannot really be faulted for that one.  As for the other transfers, I think the weight of Abramovich money at Chelsea is inflating, an over inflated transfer market.  RB has brought in promising youngsters to bolster the reserves, and eventually bring through.  I think long term this is more sensible, as Wenger has done at Arsenal.  We will still have money in the bank in January, and then we'll se what happens.

john craig wrote:I think we need to forget about transfers for now, and that includes what may or may not happen in January.  People were drooling all summer about all the big names we were supposedly after and when it didn't happen, Rafa and the board got criticised heavily on this forum, totally undeserved.

How exactly is it undeserved?? Personally, I can't see any fault in people being angry/upset that we didn't make the signings that we were supposed to this summer. We all knew that a new right winger and a center-back were priority above anything else that the team needed to sort out this summer, and needed addressing first. Instead, that took a backseat to spending money on a new striker, goalkeeper, and a center midfielder. Now, I know that one should seize the chance to sign a "quality" player if they become available for a good price...but you have to wonder if they should take priority over other things. If we hadn't made said purchases, there would have been more money to put towards players of quality that we actually need. I mean, we sorted out deals and put it bids for Crouch, Reina, and Sissoko relatively early in the tansfer window or even befoe. But, then...we're left puting in hectic last minute bids for center-backs and waiting until the last minute to sign Simao?? Why?? If this was some type of strategy, it certainly backfired and didn't work. Don't get me wrong, I don't think Rafa did terribly this summer...but he certianly did drop the ball when it came to making signings that we needed the most. To tell the truth, the only big signing I really like so far is Sissoko. I'm glad that he took the iniative there. But, as far a Crouch and Reina goes...why?? Crouch I can understand, since he was planning to sell Baros. Which I think was a mistake, but whatever. We all know which striker should have been sold, if one had to go. You could see it from day one. I mean, why keep Morientes ifhe doesn't fit into the style of play Liverpool currently have?? Imo, Baros is/was far more threatening than Morientes when it comes to strikers. We just don't have the service that Morientes needs for his game. Thus, he's left looking pretty :censored: useless at times when he plays for us. He's still here, though. And we bought another player in the same type of mould!! Go figure. To be honest, I prefer Crouch, though. So, yeah. At least he has Premiership experience and has netted a fair amount of goals. We all know Morientes has skill and all, but it looks like he won't be making much of an impact for us. Jury is still out. Anyway, back to Reina. I think we overpaid. Just my opinion, though. Also, did we urgently need him?? I don't think so, but perhaps. Why keep Dudek or Kirkland then?? Dudek should have been sold, if that's the way we were planning to go. He would of gotten a decent amount of cash. Last thing, funny Rafa says he will only pay what players are worth and then thinks nothing of Reina's and Crouch's price tags....

Sorry for the little rant there.

:D  another pro-baros fan...hehehhe like me. Dude, just let it go. Yeah, it was a mistake to let baros go seeing how the current strikers are performing in the lone striker role....

but he's gone.......
