Rule 1 – Always let the MOT run down as long as possible. Get as much use out of your car as you can, but always wait till just before the new MOT has to be signed before getting rid of it. This is especially the case if you’re trying to sell your car to large foreign importers. In this case you might be as well letting the MOT lapse, then you can give that old heap away.

Rule 2 – Never try and bump up the price of your car too much. Today you might be selling a car but tomorrow you might be buying and car dealers will always give you a good deal later on if you’ve sold them a car cheap.

Rule 3 – Having trouble selling that old car? Don’t bother. Loan it out to someone instead in the hope they might keep it. Better still leave it out in the street with the door unlocked and forget about it, eventually someone will nick it.

Rule 4 – Having trouble with one of those little foreign numbers you bought, who’s engine keeps spitting and spluttering every time you start it. Have no fear, check out Big Sam’s Wrecking Yard in Bolton, he’ll take it off your hands for next to nothing.

Rule5 – Having trouble with that little speedy sporty number with the dodgy steering you picked up in the Czech Republic. Drop your price low enough and you’ll find a buyer and you should still have enough to buy that people carrier with extra head room you’ve always wanted.

Rule 6 – The best way to get a good deal on a car you aren’t sure about whether you want to sell or not, is to sound out a few deals secretly, but don’t agree to any of them. Wait for the car to start stalling then you can off-load it hassle free.

Rule 7 – If you have a car that you love, but just doesn’t give you the performance you hoped. Don’t consider selling it, keep driving it, even if it falls apart.

Rule 8 – Having trouble with that Aussie made gas guzzler. Don’t worry if you can’t find anyone with the right spare parts to get it up and running again. Whatever you do, don't sell it. The problem is probably more to do with you driving it too often. Leave it in the garage more often and only bring it out for special occasions.

I think it's more traditional to mock other teams. Saying "it's humour" doesn't make everything alright.

Why don't you write publish a similar car-themed joke about Everton...there's a broken Pistone joke in there somewhere.

not only does it slate liverpool, but this post also has a pop at our aussie brethren

not funny at all max. it would appear that your hands were in gear writing before your brain engaged (and i use the term brain in your case loosely).

you have no sense of humour, nor can you make informed judgements on anything
