Traveling from the usa - Place to stay (recommendations?)

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby quakesfan » Fri Mar 26, 2004 6:06 pm

I'm traveling to Liverpool from the US on April 4th to see the game against Blackburn and then I'll be back between the 7-9th.  I checked on the internet for hotels but they seem to be expensive.  I know these hotels pay for the advertisement to be on the internet.  Do any of you fellow Liverpool fans have any contacts of places to stay that aren't so expensive?  Guest houses or anything.
I'm a huge soccer fan and especially a Liverpool fan.  I went to see the USA play Holland in Amsterdam last month and then I traveled to England to see Liverpool play Portsmouth at Anfield, however we tied Portsmouth in the FA Cup and had to do a replay.  Then I thought I might be able to catch a tour of Anfield but they were booked for days, so my last trip was a real dissappointment.  I stayed at the feathers hotel last time but that was expensive.  So basically I'm trying to find a place at a reasonable price this time.
This is how bad I want to see Liverpool play.  I have a ticket to the game on April 4th already.
Anyone have any suggestions???  Thank you.

Yes mate, for a start change your name ! who the fk are the quakes ? Call yourself American Red or something then you might get more feedback.
I'm in London so can't really help you with accommodation in Liverpool.
Good luck anyway. :D

Wow, you on you're period woof woof? No harm but that was a pathetic reaction....

You will probably find quakes is an American football team or something.

Anyway quakesfan, im not much use, i stayed in a little bed & breakfast when i was over, but i was so focusedon being in Anfield i can't remember the name of it, plus it was a few year's back. Maybe someone could help? The B&B had like a big rock attacthed to the side of it, alomost looked like the building and the rock was all in one! It was cheap and warm, can't say much about the food though.

Are you into any other sport's like motocross?
Good luck and i hope you find somewhere.

Hey buddy,

I asked my Scouser boss up here in Vancouver, BC about your query..this was his response:

"I'll give it some thought … there are some fairly cheap places down on the dock road, opposite the Albert Dock and going south from there ….. like $30 per night, which is not bad.  Can't remember the name(s).

I'd almost recommend going on spec, and finding a B&B, or trying to get into the "Y", which I think is pretty modern."

Hope this helps a bit...btw did you see there is a 14 year old kid, Adu, going to play in the MLS this year? that blew me away...

As for you Scousers, San Jose Earthquakes, MLS, NASL
Peter Beardsley would have played against the Quakes long before he found fame, fortune, and glory at Anfield when he was a young Vancouver Whitecap!!

enjoy your trip to Anfield,
Les

Well, thanks for all those who gave me a little info, I'll keep searching.
The San Jose Earthquakes are an American professional soccer team (Major League Soccer).  We won the championship last year against Chicago.  Landon Donovan is the famous player on our team.  He wanted to sign with Portsmouth by the way, not that I care anyway.
Soccer is very much looked down upon with the American sports media like ESPN.  It is frustrating to be a soccer fan here in the states because soccer is fifth class, behind American Football, baseball, basketball, hockey, etc.  We never see anything about soccer here.
This is my dream trip, go to England and watch 5 matches in the first week of April with Liverpool being my favorite.  Don't hate me but I'm going to see Everton on April 9th.  I understand the rival between the two clubs but I just want to see good English Football (some of you might wonder why Everton?)
If you have time or the curiosity check out www.sjearthquakes.com or www.mlsnet.com .  MLS has really helped the United States move up and compete with other countries.  Brian McBride, Carlos Bocanegra, Brad Friedel all had their start in the MLS.  Yes, and now Freddy Adu, the 14 year old is playing for DC United.  If you don't know who he is, I guarentee that you will in years to come.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to spending some time in Liverpool and touring Anfield and catching the match against Blackburn.  It will be a blast.

Funny you mention the young 14 year old, because Sky tv did a small news item about him only yesterday.

Alright Quakesfan, Leon in Liverpool here buddy.

The reason your having trouble is beceause the 3rd 4th 5th is the Grand National weekend. The biggest Horse race in the World. Any hotel, B&B or the like that is any good will be well booked up, and if its not its either sh##e or charging 3 fold the normal price.

Good Luck is all I can say.
