Why buy a new cb when we have josemi?

Josemi says (http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/drilldow ... 0-0825.htm)

"If I'm used as a centre back more, I'll be happy. I love tackling and this is where I'm strongest.

"In my last season at Malaga I played centre back, not right back so it's not a problem position for me. In fact, it's a position I enjoy very much."

Two questions:

Firstly, what do you guys think?  Is he better suited to CB, or would we just shift his inconsistency and poor decision making closer to where it can really hurt us?

I was reasonably impressed with him during the Super Cup, despite some typical Josemi moments.  However, I wonder if you want a calmer head for the centre of defence - sometimes not tackling is the best thing you can do - I could see him rushing up and getting turned a little too much...  Give me Hyppia for the high balls and Carra for everything else anyday.

Not that I think it is going to happen, but...

Secondly, why does he put his hand up now for CB - does he know something we don't - i.e., we're not getting another CB?

If Josemi plays a CB I would suggest everyone get down to the bookies and back us a the team to concede most penalties in a seson since the invention of the penalty

After all, I don't think we should be that desperate for another center back. We would be spending 10 mil+ for Simao Sabrosa and I doubt if we have a significant amount left to sign a quality CB with experience. Should we not conclude a deal for a center back before the transfer window shuts, we still have decent defenders at our disposal. Carragher and Hyypia would probably be our first choices for important matches, while Whitbread, Traore, and even Josemi could serve as back-ups.

Raoul I agree with your point actually Josemi played really well at centre back against CSKA Sofia, to be honest I think thats his best position because he is not willing to get back quickly when he has gone forward. Finnan is our right back.

Yeah Josemi for cover at centre back.
