We are in debt if you consider the signings made by GH and subsequently written off via free transfers and loans. There was only going to be so much time before we simply couldn't afford to do that - we were banking on future successes.

Fortunately for us we won the CL and that must have righted the boat so to speak, but we obviously still aren't quite right. £14m on Cisse and £10m on Alsono were massive signings last year, and this year we have still spent a respectible amount of money but we haven't recouped that much have we?

Maybe we all need to be a bit more realistic. Our Carlsberg deal should now have paid off and we must be soon in position to take advantage of a new kit deal - please not sh#tty reebok again!!

If Rafa can get his hands on Solano and a CB of a decent quality then that will have to do, let get behind them and the team and get into the top 4 or 3, defend our title and next year we can start splashing the cash again.

.. Nice  :)

..the biggest signing for us was keeping Gerrard .. now calm down all and look forward.

Maybe because thats actually what he's worth ?

We were all were pi'ssed off at how little we got for him and  were banging on about how we'd been robbed . Our hurt feeling shouldn't lead us to belive that Owen is only worth what we sold him for.

yeah but paying twice for a player who walked out from us 12 months ago don't actually make financial and footballing sense don't you agree?

I certainly don't think it is Parrys' place to come on air suggesting 'this or that' is in the pipeline, showing our hand or appeasing the vociferous minority or whatever agenda he dances to.

well for the same reason that Newcastle will sell a player they just bought for £16-17m for £10m in a years time - b/c Parry like Shepherd is insane!

thankfully for us this is not the case and Parry/Rafa did the right thing in stepping away for such a deal - £17m for a player who while had a great record for Liverpool has not done all that well for England recently - he needs precise service to put the ball in the net. They don't know it but i think Souness and Shepherd have just done themselves more harm than good...

I think we handled this well. We weren't going to bend over backwards to sign a player who slapped us in the face last season. Unlike Newcastle we aren't desperate and Owen has a 12 million pound buy out clause in his contract. We've shown that we aren't going to be spat on by any player and expect to welcome them with a smile.

Real Madrid were never going to do any business with us and if they were, they would want to screw us over like they have in the past.

Its easy to start blaming people like Rick Parry after we didn't get Owen, but the fact is I don't think Rafa wanted him, and Madrid would never sell him for the amount of money we would offer anyway.
Owen is probably worth £15mil +, but we shouldn't have paid that much for him after he left us for £8mil. In the end if Rafa really wanted him I believe Parry would have done everything he could to get him back, but Rafa wouldn't guarantee him a starting place so he went to Newcastle who did.

I think that in the past Rick Parry has got one or two descisions wrong and been a bit soft in some dealings i.e. he should have told owen 2 years ago to sign the bleedin contract or feck off to the highest bidder but in this case he has got it spot on. Owen seems to be more interested in his england career than his club which wan't going to benefit us. Parry is well respected in footballing circles; i seem to remember that it was only last year that the FA wanted him to replace palios or whatever the hell his name was and there have been other big offers for him but he has stuck with the club he loves which some people haven't and you all know who i mean :eyebrow . It is better to have a cautious chief exec that wants to secure the clubs future whilst chasing success rather than spending millions on players and thousands on bloody tropical fish  for his office and then run the club into the ground. :buttrock
