it didn't take long for the "i've played to a decent standard" and "i've coached a kids team" lines to come out.

hehe.....it amazes me how much time people have to spend pontificating about the same ol rubbish day in day out on multiple boards. Where do you all get the time from?  :)

This speculation has unsettled Cisse, who could've been dynamite. there are too many rose tinted glasses knocking about IMO and I expect to lose the manager. Well in!!

I agree that it is unfair that Cisse is being unsettled by all this speculation especially as I don't see why anyone would need to go now.....they had enough strikers with Baros there, now he is gone there is place vacant....simple as that.

With regards the rose tinted glasses on the board, I don't really think that that is the case. Think of it like a family.....he went out on his own, a little too big for his boots and now wants to come back...humbled. Any good family would welcome him back.

The difference is now is that he has to prove himself again, to us, to the England manager, to the world. He has no laurels to rest on, which were arguably the cause of his relative complacency in the first place.

Plus the face we could really use the goals, I'll be astounded at Rafas bravery if he really doesn't go for him. Until now, I have been sure he was playing a game and not allowing Owens team to control the situation. If he had stated he wanted him weeks back, they would have played Liverpool off against Newcastle and the price, wages, demands and egos would have gone up like crazy. He now has him on his hands and knees almost begging to come back.

Good job if you ask me.

Mmm?...my guess is they are either all (lazy) work shy students?...or  work dodging dole signers?  :nod

Sven-Goran Eriksson has revealed that Michael Owen called him for advice over a possible transfer from Real Madrid back to the Premiership.

Owen spent much of last season on the bench at Real and feared his England place was under threat if the situation remained the same this term.

"I told him that if he plays as many games as he did last season, I will pick him," said Eriksson.

"If he never plays, however, then it's a tricky one."

The Swede will name his England squad on Sunday for the World Cup qualifiers against Wales and Northern Ireland.

Owen is suspended for the first game in Cardiff where Jermain Defoe will take his place, but he is expected to return against Northern Ireland.

Eriksson added: "He is always a very calm young man but is very keen to play football, so you can understand that he wants to come back to England.

"If he stays at Real Madrid then he doesn't know how much he will play.

"I think something has to happen very soon, although exactly what, I don't know.

"I will be very happy the day that they tell me what's going to happen to him as I think he's worried. He's a calm person but he wants to know his future." BBC

Sad thing is that Eriksson is the one who suggested that he leaves Liverpool to play for Real to improve as a player.

I have to say, reading all the stuff about Mikey, including his alleged calls to the England manager.. this whole saga has been so sad..in fact disastorous :( for someone like Owen to become so ordinary, in the light of superstar talent around him at Real, and to appear to be in the wilderness vis a vis big club demand for his service, must be soul destroying. If the club including the Boss especially want him, I hope we get him and he can achieve success with us.
