i think we must be in for him - after all would Newcastle really need to put up an ultimatum if there was any chance he'd join them - by the sounds of it they have not spoken to MO directly for some time, they keep referring to 'his advisers'?

lets face it with the bid accepted by Real if we weren't in for him what could th delay possibly be from his side? would be a quick conversation to agree terms - 'Michael, how much would you like to be paid and what shirt number would you like?', 'i'd like £100k/week and number 11', 'done - see you next week' - simple as that really.

Super cup tomorrow and MO saturday, not a bad few days!

It wont be at the price of Cisse though, baros knew he would be out on his ear even before the CL final and this Owen saga, reading between the lines Rafa doesnt seem to have Cisse in his plans MO or no MO, it just seems that way, I dont know why though I dont know how Rafa ticks TBH.

The only reason i can think of for selling Cisse is obviously Rafa knows he can get pretty much all of the £14M back. The MO should for the begining finance itself as were still owed money. I can only imagine that with the Cisse money rafa is planning to perhaps but a a big big name.

PARRY DROPS OWEN HINTS
by Adam Marshall -  created on 25 Aug 2005

Liverpool chief executive Rick Parry has hinted that Liverpool could make their move for Michael Owen before the transfer deadline on August 31.

As Newcastle United supremo Freddy Shepherd concedes the England international will not be heading for Tyneside unless a deal is wrapped up on Thursday, which is looking increasingly unlikely, a return to Anfield could be the likeliest solution.

Despite constant denials from Rafa Benitez, who wants a centre back and wide midfielder before looking at his forward line, it is believed that the Merseysiders are biding their time before weighing up a move for the Real Madrid striker.

"Wait and see," Parry told Sky Sports News. "Absolutely [it's all I can say].

"There's been far too much speculation on it already.

"Let's just rely on facts and we'll see when we get to that day [next Wednesday's deadline].

"I don't [want to comment on my feelings on bringing him back]. My personal feelings do not have anything to do with it.

"One myth that can be dispelled is there's never been a difference of opinion between Rafa and me. We're just keeping our counsel.

"There's some work to do and it's a few days before the deadline so we'll see."

Steven Gerrard has reiterated his desire to link up again with his international colleague.

"There's been a lot of speculation and a lot of people are asking me the question but it's a question only the Liverpool manager can answer," asserted Gerrard on Sky Sports News.

"I've said what I think about the situation. I love Michael as a player; I think any team with him is always going to be stronger but Rafa Benitez is the only man who knows whether he wants Michael back so we're going to have to wait and see."

Gerrard will not be risked in Friday's European Super Cup clash with CSKA Moscow.

"It's very doubtful for tomorrow night," he stated. "It's a very nice game to play in but, with all due respect, it's not a very important one.

"I've got two important internationals coming up so I want to give myself the best chance to be fit for those games so I won't be taking any risks tomorrow night."

Newcastle could be turning to Deportivo La Coruna forward Albert Luque as an option with the Owen deal in the balance.

:) that's the 'spillin the beans'  bit us desperados  :D have been lookin for.. Parry has been measured in his response, and he is right that we must wait for facts.. though both the Boss and Gerrard's grins tell a 'wheelin and deelin' tail is perhaps about to be unravelled..  ..

.. still drivin us bonkers though .. but hey worth it if we get our man  :)

Parry would have denied any interest out right.. that's for sure, if we were not in it to get him  :)

Yes but we still havent paid for Cisse I think we still owe about 8 million for him, Real owe us 4 million for Owen, but Cisse is now cuptied, and that will devalue him alot but if Houllier buys him he would probably pay the 14 million we bought him for. :D
