Where will the goals come from? - I don't rate our strikers

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Two league games and one goal says it all, watching last nights goalless performace sums up a problem.

Some people on this forum (hands up, you know who you are) were saying that when Cisse came he'd set the league alight and were showing clips of goals from France. He hasn't impressed me at all. Does anybody believe he'll score 25 goals a season? He's fast but thats it.

Morientes just doesn't seem to have it. I didn't see much of him at Madrid so maybe he was good there but he hasn't done anything in his time here.

Crouch - 6 good months at Southampton isn't exactly proven. Jury's out.

This is NOT a Michael Owen thread but none of these guys inspire the confidence that they'll score 20 league goals a season the way he used to.

Do you see any of these three coming good?

It doesn't say anything. TWO bloody games for gods sake!!!!! and everyone has written an obituary for every one of our strikers.

Cisse looked lively last night. He linked up well, demonstrated awareness, his movement was good, he worked hard to win the ball back and their were a few glimpses of a growing understanding with Morientes. He hit a cracking free-kick that wasn't a million miles away and his touch was a bit heavy for the only real chance he had in a game where the team had a stinker (in general) and there was no real service.

Morientes has been dissapointing so far but it's still too early to call time on his LFC career and it will be interesting to see him perform in the same team as Crouch and maybe some quality service from the wings that he thrives on.

As for Crouch, he's barely kicked a ball for us. I still believe he will prove to be a very effective player for us.

Everyone keeps going on about needing a 20 goals a season striker. Benitez teams don't play that way. He said recently that he would like 10-15 goals from each striker. Didn't Valencia win La Liga with their top striker scoring just 12 goals!

Wrong! They have Mista scored 19.

Check the first la liga win in 2002. I can't find a Valencia player in the top 20 scorers that season. I might be wrong.

Can't be certain but i think this was the 2nd time rafa won la liga; i think the first time he won it they didn't have a massive goals tally from any one player.
People on the forum are seriously jumping the gun way too soon, Cisse looked pretty sharp last night and has done in pre-season and don't forget he's been on the bench and playing wide right in the two league games; give half a dozen games as a out-and-out striker and we'll see his scoring touch soon return. As for morientes i just can't put my finger on why he is looking like the spanish version of heskey (i.e.couldn't hit a cow's a*se with a banjo) and maybe we should think about cutting our losses on him.

The end of last season was the same.  If you check the stats, our strikers were all off form.

out of the strikers we have now crouch will score the most however we should get Owen no doubt in my mind. Cisse isnt clinical he is just about pace and morientes is all over the place dropping back into midfield and loosing the ball constantly. WE NEED OWEN SIMPLE AS

Todays players are not up to scratch, remember the greats from the 60s and 70s,they were hungry players, they wanted to win not like this lot who dont have to try, they still get their money if they play :censored: every week. All we get are a bunch of pounces,3 good players and a load of imports.Lineker was right.Where is the passion etc

This isn't about last nights game!

Cisse doesn't seem like a centre forward, he was bought as one, why is he drifting out wide, I worry he'll be another Stan Collymore, the wings are a hiding place for guys that should be down the middle. He has a terrible first touch too and his finishing has been poor. How many league goals has he scored so far (I know he's only played about a dozen or so but he's probably scored about 2!).

Morientes, if people were seeing him for the first time i.e. without reputation, they wouldn't rate him.

We can only have 2 first choice strikers, at max, none of them are wingers, don't try convert striker into winger as that is bollllox. Which two strikers should we play then.

Impossible for each of them to play 50 games up front but if they did, how many goals do you think they'd each score. i'd say about 10 each.

I also don't believe in rotation of strikers. Remember Fowler, owen and heskey and litmanen. they all sufferred as none of them were ever sharp.

Your correct in that Cisse has the 1st touch of a rapist and to be frank apart from pace and a powerful shot doesnt have much more to offer. With coaching i do think he will make a decent striker but not for a team which has aspirations of breaking into the top 3.

Morientes on the other hand I will have to disagree as I feel that he just needs a goal to gain that extra bit of confidence that will bring out the best of him. People talk about pace but I think you will see that with a bit more confidence he will have an extra yard. People must remeber he has never been a quick player but more of a sheringham type player who has the 1st yard or 2 in his head.

To answer your question god knows but Im sure they will come

the strikers mentioned r not setting the place on fire, because the sevice they get is below standard no natural winger to get behind the defence quickly, lack of imagination when the midfield  moves forward, how often do we see a quick one two, some body showing dummies, pass and move at pace, 1st half last night we were taught a lesson in midfield play , they made it look simple.we need a real play maker. :) :)
