Sunderland fan here - Don't bite!

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby RedWolf35 » Sun Aug 21, 2005 1:41 pm

Surely if a a football fan goes on another teams site they expect some stick (Chelsea Forever do you ever go on the Chelsea site??) I went on the Everton site recently and posted a really good thread about their recent transfer activity and got so much abuse (which was great) however, we had just played Sunderland and he seemed a really nice guy - our fans are known for their greatness let's try & be a little bit kinder to oppossing fans in the future (Chelsea, Man Ure & Everscum not included of course)

I love this site I only wish I had known about it years ago

Some of you guy's are really funny

Nah, you have to earn it. (I thought that was obvious!)

Really, as my philosophy is "Treat others as you would expect to be treated".

I am being very objective here. Regarding your point about Garcia faking it, I really, really beg to differ. Welsh is a bigger man than Garcia, looking upon the impact when he crashed into Garcia, and the fact that Garcia was already losing his balance anyway after tussling with another Sun defender, it's harsh to say that he took a dive. He definitely did not make a meal out of it either. He just got up and got into position, waiting for play to start again. But who knows, the linesman thought differently. If there's anyone you can blame, its the linesman, not Garcia.

And also,I do feel that somehow Welsh got himself sent off. If you have any chance to look at replays, immediately after he crashed into Garcia, look at his body language and expression. Observe how smug he looked, and how he stared at the fallen body of Garcia with a hostile expression. That's probably what led the linesman to think that Welsh knocked Garcia off purposely, and with malice.

That said, I do symphatize with you that Welsh still did not do enough to get sent off. And the card will probably be retracted.

On the other side, to say that your side did not deserve to lose is...hmmm.... a bit too hard to accept. You might say if only Brown stuck his leg out, if only carra wasn't there etc. Well, we can also say if only the post wasn't in the way of gerrad's early cross into the box. if only cisse stuck a 'good' leg out (twice) etc etc. if nando and zenden sent their headers on target after being left unmarked. So you see, you really can't judge how a game would have been with examples like these. And oh, if only Gerrard played the whole game, then probably he would have made sure of a good result and save us all from this debate.

Nevertheless, I implore fellow Liverpool members to stop bringing up "WE ARE THE EURO CHAMPIONS -- NAY NAY NEE BOO BOO" every now and then. That's in the past..let's move on to greater things. If you want to have a good discussion with someone, base your discussion on what you are discussing. Dont conveniently drag out the fact that we're Euro champions.

Lot of fans in this forum are getting a bit swollen headed. Be modest, be nice. That's what Liverpool fans are always about. Faith has come here with no ill intentions except for letting out some of his frustration at getting a man sent off for nothing. We should understand that. We shouldn't jump on him, nor should we (which some of you obviously do) look down on him just bcos "he's sunderland, I'm euro champion".
Euro Champ won't count for nothing if we cant get good results every week. Show your opponent the same respect they have always show pool supporters. Dont let success get to your heads, otherwise how different will we be from manure?

Brilliant post I think.  There is no reason to abuse Faith.  Sunderland are a team with fighting spirit as they showed today.  Yes we played better them, and deserved to win - but we are also a better side than them.  There's no reason to be disrespectful to a team trying thier best and coming away from Anfield with their heads held high.

We won, lets be happy about that rather than treating Faith like he's a Manure fan.  Think about how much you love LFC.  Now think about how you would feel if people said the kind of things that have been said about Sunderland on here.  'Garbage' ' :censored:', and so on.  That in itself is :censored:.  If Sunderland finish bottom this season, they will finish 20th in a structure reaching all the way down to teams nobody has heard of.  Any side in the top flight are bloody good - FACT.

Faith; I guess a lot of Liverpool fans are frustrated - we're living in worrying times, our skipper and talisman has picked up an injury, and our strikers aren't firing on all cylinders, in fact the guns are jammed.  We didn't take our chances at Boro, and apart from a genius free-kick we didn't today.  We all had very high hopes before the season started, and unless at least 2 of our strikers can click into form* those hopes could very eaisily evaporate.  I think if you were to post on here after the (hopefully) return of Michael Owen, you'd find a lot of people less tense, and worried - and get a much better and more respectful reception.

Garcia didn't dive though.  He was off balance, and Welsh's momentum was always going to send him crashing to the floor.  Not a red card, but also not Garcia's fault.  I hope you stay up this season, good luck with that; because just now you are just as worthy of your place in the top division as any other side there.  If you finish the season with a big R next to your name, then you won't deserve your place, and you won't have it.  Last season you finished with a P/C.  So good luck to you.

To my fellow reds:  Why didn't we abuse Juventino like this?  Chelsea forever gets more repsect that this half the time (not all the time I know) and he supports the 'chequebook champions', a dirty scummy plastic team with a sh*t-for-brains, media obsessed, spoilt little leach as thier manager.  A plastic team indeed.  Not a real, football club that actually had to earn their sucess.  We are not W*nkchester or Chel$ea 'fans' so lets prove that we are not just great supporters, but good winners too.

*Cisse it could be argued is there already, but goals against TNS are Kanuas are probably eaisier than those he'll score in training - he got one against CSKA though.

Some points I dont agree wth towards the end of the second post, but all in all, two great reads and posts!!! :nod

Now the more pressing point on the mind of Sunderland fans - Luis Garcia. Sorry but Welsh is NOT a dirty player, he didn't go in that hard and Garcia made a meal of it, I don't even think that the ref was going to send him of until he spoke to his linesman. But I don't think it was a red, and I think I will be hard pushed to find anyone who disagree

?? did you actualy watch the game at all ? what exactly did garcia do..did he roll over on the floor ten times screaming. did he go crying to the linesman or the reff , was he waving an imaginary card in the air. ill save you the trouble and tell you the answer to all of the above was NO  !! if welsh,s red card gets reduced so be it , but dont go blaming garcia for not being able to stand up up when some brainless fool who has become frustrated runs into the back of him

Loads of good points made on this...shall i say interesting thread.
The Sunderland supporters original comments about Garcia causing the red card and that they were unlucky were both wrong, as were some reactions.
Garcia done nothing wrong, he jumped straight back up and never even complained.
Sunderland played pretty well, they stretched us more than i thought they would and didnt come and just stick 10 men behind the ball.
But still we had far more chances and on another day the score would of been a bit heavier.
Some of the critiscm on the lad is a bit unjust and i think enough people agree that he hasnt caused any problems and has a right to an opinion.
As i said before i've really enjoyed reading this thread.
