I see loads of posts everyday about whether on not Houllier should stay or go and it seems most think he should go.

Some say if we don't get 4th place then he must go etc but I thought it would be interesting to see if anyone felt, given more time (say 3 years) and money
(Pretty scary I know and I think even Stu would agree that another 3 years is pretty generous!  :D ) that GH could win the title.
The title is after all how any LFC manager will ultimately be judged.

My own view is that he has taken the team as far as he can and can't see LFC winning the title with Houllier in charge but I just wondered what others think?

No he wont. I don't belive he is technically or tactically aware enough to turn things around when things are going bad.

Not the way we are going (round in circles) We failed to build on finishing second and no amount of (second rate) cups will ever satisfy our hunger for the Premiership. He might pull off a Fergie but that is one hell of a long shot. I personally believe the league has become weaker since it became the Premiership, a gradual decline in standards. This helped Fergie achieve and keep achieving success, he never had to overtake a dominant team as we were no longer up there

Don't flame me for saying this, but it is really not that hard for a team like liverpool to win the league. Liverpool will always be 1 of the biggest teams in the world with support all over the world. There would be no shortage of sponsors willing to sponsor this club. If go on asian or scandinavian tour, it will be surely sold-out.

It just matter of time when we hit the big time again. Although the length of time depends on who is in charge of liverpool. I would say that GH would definitly win the league for liverpool within 10 years (< 7 yrs).

If it was moruino (porto) or MON (celtic), would say 2 - 3 years.

It is a matter of time. GH knows this, so he keeps giving excuses to stay in the job. We deserve someone better than GH.

Houllier has done a lot for the club, lets be honest about that, he is a good administrator. But he could'nt pick his nose never mind footballers.  Anyone with halve wit can select and buy good players, the problem is that when your trying to put a team togather you need to seek players that will compliment each other.  No good buying square pegs for round wholes no matter how strong they are.  Houllier has almost always failed to buy complimentary players.  Those that do compliment each other were already at the club when he took over, or in Hypia and Henchoz case, were experienced professionals.  All the experienced proven players( bar Biscan) have not let Houllier down, its been the players he sought to develop that have.  His buys are all so public.  Years ago you'd have heard murmours but today itseems he does his bussiness in the media.  Wenger, Fergie and so many other manager seem to keep quiet about who they're after.  I think Houllier uses his purchases as publicity because he's egotistical and because he's seeking public adulation.  It could also mean that Hhe is a halve wit and is releasing the news so that someone who knows what they're talking about can tell him his making a mistake.  either way he'll never win the premiership with Liverpool, he's just not up to the job!

How long can he live ?
The old story that if you give enough monkeys enough typewriters and enough time sooner or later one of them will write out the complete works of Shakespear could be pushed to the limit by Houllier!!!

I think he's capable, but it is a gamble. I have the feeling he can make us do much better next season, but it's a gamble because if he doesn't we may lose Owen, money and start doing even worse. Who can say we'll do better with a new manager though? It's all a gamble :(

Maybe if you gave him 10 years and another 100million to spend he could do it. But then, maybe not

houllier has had enough time and spent enough money.he has run out of ideas and if one of the others challenging for the fourth spot put a run together we will not get no where near, i dont even think he knows the best way to play whether it be to attack or defend . since we finished second teams have found us out and houllier is struggling to come up with new ideas , and even with 200 million and another five years i still cant see us winning the league untill he goes

I personally don't think he can do it.

Two years ago I thought he could, but not anymore.

GH has lost the plot since he came back from illness. His biggest problem is he is so egotistical and so pig-headed he will not admit when he's wrong. He thinks he's more important than the club which is always a worrying situation. If a player thinks he's bigger than the club he's straight out the door.

There's no denying GH did a good job in his first 2-3 years and he turned our club around from the shambles it had become, but we have gone backwards consistently since finishing 2nd. GH has taken the club as far as he can and its time for a new approach - my no.1 would be O'Neill. Think what he's done at Leicester and Celtic with virtually no money to spend - his strength is getting the best out of players week in, week out. We've got (most of) the players we need, MON would have us genuine title contenders straight away. (And he's not afraid to bin Heskey).
