If there IS anything in it, is it a good move? My suspicion has been from the very early stages that we paid way over the odds for him (I think we'd get maybe 7 or 8 mill tops if we sold him tomorrow) but despite this, I like his attitude and think he is showing promise with every game. My preferred option, if cash is tight would have been to sell Morientes (I think we'd get our money back to to a Spanish club), keep Baros and sign Owen. I think then in Baros, Owen, Crouch and Cisse each striker would offer something different.
Surely if we sell Baros AND Cisse then we are left with three strikers and will be relying on the likes of Mellor if we sustain injuries.
The only justification for selling Cisse in my book would be to sell him to Lyon as Houllier would probably pay through the nose to get him and to prove he was a good signing in the first place.

i hardly think it would be fair to sell him now considering he missed pretty much the whole of last season through injury.

however i've said it in the past and i'll say it again. i don't think rafa is a big fan of cisse. that's why he didn't play him against sofia at home or at boro, despite him scoring 4 goals in his previous 5 games.

i also agree that we paid over the odds for him but that was houllier for you. if rafa was here 2 years ago he would never have brought cisse here in the first place so we can thank our lucky stars that we have him.

Didn't Rafa scout Cisse while he was with Valencia?

I wouldent cry my eyes out if Cisse was to leave and we got a 10MIL+ fee for him.

But I dont believe it personaly, Cisse is now cup tied, Rafa would not have cup tied him if he had any thoughts about letting him leave, his tranfer value has now dipped becuase of this.

4 senior strikers does seem a bit much too me, I think 3 plus Pongolle and Garcia is enough. Morinetes, Crouch and either Cisse/Owen is what I would like to see rather than all of them.

So Cisse and Baros out, and Dirk Kuijt and Michael owen in :kungfu:

Hear that-but did we not sign Crouch because Feyenoord were asking silly money for Kuijt?

They are similar kind of 'hold the ball up' strikers but i don't think that Rafa thought that the kind of money Feyenoord wanted represented value.

Spurs are reportedly preparing an offer somewhere in the region of 10 mill. for him.

wiltord!? did i read correctly? the cheek of lyon! we should nvr accept any player exchanges from lyon except juninho. and juninho + 6 m would be a good deal for cisse.

cisse's hardly played for us, so its not fair to say whether he's good enough or not for lfc. but obviously rafa has seen enough of him in training to conclude that he's not the type of player he wants. (well, he didn't really say that but actually its already pretty obvious that rafa doesn't really rate cisse i.e. cisse spends most of the time on the bench).

anyway, i don't rate cisse either. i reiterate that he's played few games for us for me to make such a statement. but from the games i've indeed seen him play (from the time auxerre played against us) all he's got is pace. kinda noticed that he looks jittery during one-on-ones and couldn't head the ball either.surely he will get better after coming back from an injury, but that takes time and i suspect rafa wants immediate success this season to maintain his reputation as a miracle worker.

actually the best is that we sell crouch instead (thats not gona happen!!) cos i foresee that with him in the team, the team will consciously/sub-consciously keep playing long balls bcos of his height.

but if rafa sells cisse and baros indeed, who have we lined up to replace them. one's owen, the other?

I would be very suprised if we sold Cisse.
Benitez has a close connection with the fans, and he knows that Cisse excites the crowd with his pace and commitment.

If Houllier offered us the money we paid (i.e 14 million) for Cisse.....i think we would accept it.  But i can't see us taking a player exchange (an old player at that!) and dribs and drabs of money.  :no

Well looks like they have made a £8.5M bid for Baros but i he has already rejected them before. If does change his mind and goes i dont think they will come in for Cisse, but if he rejects tem again, they just might.
----------------------------------------------------------------

LYON today raised the stakes in the race for Milan Baros by tabling an astonishing £8.5m bid for the striker.

Former Anfield boss Gerard Houllier underlined his determination to recruit the Czech international with a huge offer for the player he brought to Anfield three years ago.

Aston Villa were in pole position to recruit Baros, who has expressed a preference to move to the Midlands.

Indeed, although Liverpool have accepted the French champions' bid, Baros has already informed the Reds he doesn't want to be reunited with his ex-manager.

Liverpool are hoping the lure of Champions League football will make Baros rethink and are prepared to wait until the transfer window is nearly closed for a final decision from the striker.

Lyon's offer is a serious setback to Villa, who hoped to secure the Czech striker for £2m less.

Villa's £6.5m offer has obviously been rejected by the Reds.

Liverpool tried to compromise by asking for Nolberto Solano as part of a deal for Baros.

So far, David O'Leary has firmly rejected the proposal, although Solano himself is believed to be attracted to the prospect of a switch to Merseyside.

The Reds will now await Villa's next move with interest, while Houllier will be hoping his staggering offer and the lucrative wages and signing-on fee Baros can expect following the £26m sale of Michael Essien will tempt him to France.

Meanwhile, the Michael Owen transfer is no closer to being resolved despite ongoing reports his return to Anfield is imminent.

Owen has told Madrid he only wants them to deal with the Reds, and Liverpool will try to agree his transfer, but other clubs are prepared to pay more for his services.

The Reds have not made contact with Madrid yet, and any suggestion a deal could be tied up by the weekend is extremely premature.

Liverpool's international contingent return to Melwood for an early evening training session as preparations begin ahead of Sunderland's visit.

cant see it somehow the merry go round of :censored: rumours, bids  continues. The lad hasnt had chance to shine after his horrific injury yet.Its quite flattering really that since May we have become the talk of the town in the national  media again.I watch that jimmy hill programme on a sunday morning where they have journos sitting around a table discussing chelsea this or Arsenal that its quite a refreshing change we are now getting equal billing or indeed more press at the moment, even though most of it is :censored:

Cisse's a beast! I don't believe the rumours either, I think Benitez would be too smart to get rid of someone with such electric pace and the will power to run at the opposition. Just remember the Charlton game early on last season, that was a true example of his pace and power.
