mind you, 8.5 mill, means a better signing on fee for baros, if it is lfc who are selling, or none if it was baros' idea

personal terms are irrelevant if the two teams in question do not agree a fee/loan term e.t.c. to transact a deal where the player leaves the selling club, and joins the buying club.

As an example, we agreed personal terms for Luis Figo, but he still decided to join Inter anyway

Attaboy Ged, Liverpool ask for £7mil so you offer £8.5mil :D

Alway a shrewd operator in the transfer market

he called it "snipe" bidding...make competitors too shock to even know how to react.  :eyebrow

Im still reeling the effects of a 14 million bid for Diouf, talk about snipe bidding... :D

this doesn't make sense. baros and houllier never got on when baros was here. houllier never played him. not long ago i heard baros slagging off houllier in the press aswell saying he had "knocked the confidence out of him".

however, for £8.5m snap their hands off. :D

Indeed, although Liverpool have accepted the French champions' bid, Baros has already informed the Reds he doesn't want to be reunited with his ex-manager.

I think this paragraph says it all.

Regarding Owen, LFC just aren't having much luck with Real Madrid this season, first Figo now Owen.

I knew we should have waited to sell Diouf. We could have got £30m for him if we'd waited for Essien to go. :D

Baros is never going to France, he said he rates the Spanish and English leagues as the best and that that's where he wants to play.

I reckon Houllier made that 8.5mil bid to try and show the Lyon fans that the club still has a bit of ambition after the Essien sale.  He knew Baros wouldn't want to go there and that no deal would be done.

Baros HATED playing under Houllier AND he doesn't want to play in France, it's never going to happen

It doesn't matter if we accepted the bid, if Baros doesn't want to go there[he said he didn't] then there's nothing we can do about it.

Would be good business that, and it may force Villa to up their bid if they want him. Anything over 7 million would be fantastic.

It will not happen unless Baros has a sudden change of heart.
