Woodgate?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

LFCOnline reports that along with Michael Owen, Woodgate would join us on a season loan. Woodgate would be a great addition if he can stay fit for 90 minutes on the pitch, post your thoughts on the  "rumour".

If we have to post our thoughts on the rumour ,why start a new thread ??

PS its the same old chestnut with woodgate ,he is always injured .Big risk considering his injuries are that bad they were career threatening.

Because it's a discussion board, therefore shouldn't it be discussed?

Woodgate has denied that his injuries could had ended his career for good. He's back in training with Madrid, and is a matter of time before he returns.

Of course hes gonna say that, anyway it still doesnt change the fact that he makes Darren Anderton look like the Terminator.

I think we do not have to worry about Woodgate health at this point. Rafa is not stupid, I'm sure Woodgate need to pass  a physical first. If he pass, we can then have 1 year to see if still can play. IF not satisfied with his performance or he injured again, we can send him back to Real. This is a creative move by Rafa if its true. They can have Diao if they like..... :D

Nah Woodgate was injuried for ages with N'Castle even before he joined Real, too much of a risk.

Season loan though?  Not that risky.

I'd have him here all day mate.  Oozes class.  I really rate the guy, that would be an immense signinng, I just can't think why Madrid would let him come to us.  He hasn't kicked a ball for them yet, and their mad President is putting pressure on the medical staff to get him ready ASAP.  That's why he had a relapse of that muscle injury.  They were trying to rush him back.

I just don't think that they would sell him just yet.

Have to agree with the above post.Woodgate is a special player and Madrid will certainly make use of him when he has regained fitness.

Every one knows his a classy player, but i just cant see madrid leting him go espically on a loan deal considering they paid £15m for the guy and he hasnt played a second of football for them.

The guy may also have 'mentality' issues after his aledged racist attacks.

I think he may have put his injurys behind, and if so a great signing, he will be realy pushing to get back into the england squad.

Woodgate won't come. Real need him now more than ever. With Samuel gone, Helguera and Woodgate are the only two decent centre halfs at the club. Besides, our worry is what will happen if Sami or Carra get injured. What's the point of backing them up with a player who will spend more time in the physios room than anywhere else. If he has an injury free season at Real, he's worth a look in the future, but not now.

watched a few games in which he played while he was still in the prem. Similar player to the scum's ferdinand, of which the 2 of them were touted to be future england partners.

ferdinand went on to claim that place with campbell (and now terry). woodgate went on to punch up an asian student then got injured. Was near to fitness when sold to madrid, then got injured again before the la liga season started and has been injured since. Latest news is that hes back in training and would be ready for a first team match in abt 3 weeks or so.

He's classy and calm but hasn't played a 5-on-5 kick-about (much less a competitive game) in over a year. Its a risk signing him, even if its on loan. Even if he manages to stay healthy, it may be a long time before he can get his touches back unless he does a cisse.

News has it that Woodgate will prepare for the season playing in the Madrid UNDER-14, apparently because "they are weaker and not as tough" lol!

Further comments from Luxemburgo that totally takes away Woodgate's dignity include:

"(After playing in the U-14,) Then he can go on to play alongside the 16 and 17-year-olds."

Looks like Madrid no longer treat the sicknote as a grown up man. Guess they are thinking that any service they get from him in the first team should be considered as a bonus.

No one could justify paying any dough for Woodgate until he starts playing again. I think there was no doubt that he was a pretty decent centre half when he was fit and playing reguarly
but the serious question marks are there wether he can play 30-40 matches a season without breaking down. Although luxembergo said recently that woodgate will suprise everyone this season and he is progressing very well.

I dont think rafa would be interested and I hope he is monitoring the Gallas situation closely. Gallas reportly claimed at the weekend he wants a centre back berth at chelsea and doesnt want to play left back or as second choice to anyone. Gallas would be exactly what we need. He would need no time to adjust to the rigours of the EPL and he is extremley quick and could step in for Sami immediately.
