Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Had we signed Roy Keane instead of Man UTD in 1993 then the 1990s could have been entirely different.

Well this is something ive often thought about, and there is 2 players who id have loved here--1. Gary Mcallistar-I know he did come but i mean when he was younger and 2. Dennis Bergkamp - the best foreigner to grace the premiership. Two players that gave football a little hint of class  :bowdown

Apparently while at his peak he admired the Liverpool team of that era and has since been quoted as saying he would like to have played for us back then, but we never tried to sign him.

John can you stop posting exactly what I am thinking all the time please!!!   :D

Have to agree, would have to have been Diego, imagine him coming in 84/5, oh my god, Europe would not have had a chance (ban depending of course).

Dalglish, Rush, Maradona (amongst others) in the same team...Whoa!!!!

not even houlliers that nuts to turn down terry, apparently ken bates was going to sell him to us when they were on the verge of going bust as the £96m chelsea village flop was a financial millstone around the clubs neck and they desperately needed cash to keep the banks happy.
the deal was near enough done until the russians turned up.

it wasnt keane we needed, if we would have signed pallister, bruce and schmeichel the 90`s would have been different.
pallister was there for the taking for years at boro, he and another young centre half at the time called tony mowbray formed a formidable partnership but no one seemed to want to take the chance on them. eventually ferguson went for pallister and after a shaky start he became a rock solid centre half. the only thing roy evans teams lacked was a decent defence and keeper.

for once you make a decent point.
we had near enough signed the young michael laudrup but his father refused to let him sign a three year deal and we wouldnt offer him a two. this happened back in the days when contracts meant something. he was actually at anfield ready to put pen to paper when it fell through at the last minute.
we were all gutted a year later when he looked truly superb for denmark in the 86 world cup, in one particular game i remember against uruguay he was taking men on for fun, often going on runs that left four or five defenders in his wake. early on in the tournament it was michael who was the star of the world cup possibly outshining maradona but the danes went out earlyish when people were tipping them to go all the way.
didnt he go to madrid though? cant remember now.

I am led to believe that we were offered Cantona by his agent and we declined, man u then bought him him for £1 million I think, now then, theres a thought.
I would like to take this opportunity to inform you guys that Ray Kennedy was THE best player to don the red top, no s.hit. Dont bother me with any suggestions as to otherwise, though Terry mac came close.

u lot wished they signed me!
the deal nearly went through, but houllier came in and said he'd only sign me if i dropped my wages from 200,000 a week to 199,999 a week.
they missed out on me! BIG TIME! i could of sorted out the right wing problem they have EASILY!  :no

Matthew Le Tissier was wasted at Southampton and would of been a class signing for us ,the guy had immense talent.
