Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

it really shows how short we are on the right wing, Rafa needs to get that sorted and quick.  Kewell is back in fully training now, he can play on the right wing, can't he?

Quote (drummerphil @ Aug. 13 2005,19:21)
but considering our pre season form especially in the cl.....was our line up too negative

Considering it was boro, whom i rate as above average along with tottenham, it was SUPPOSED to be a tough away fixture, so i dun really blame benitez for naming his starting line up.

But the !@#@ Boro decided to play for a draw on thei own ground. They even played a short corner and tried to hold the ball in the corner when it was 4mins into injury time and liverpool had no players in the boro half. ffs...

only asking as its difficult to gauge listening to radio cleveland for 25 minutes, with there interruptions to mention hartlepool and darlington..:D

i agree, no alarm bells YET!
but you have to say in the last 20 mins our fitness came into it. and i for one would have liked nando to come on SECOND half instead, im sure one of those chances stevie had would have been converted.
hindsight....

sissoko was man of the match for me.

houllier played him there the season b4 last and that started his slow but steady decline in form (not to mention picking up all those nasty injuries)

I was hoping for more from Liverpool in their first premiership game.

Agree mate, Sissoko was everywhere put 100% effort in just ashame that we had a sh.it ref Parlour should have been well sent off, and Xabi and Luis getting yellows ffs, how harmless are these 2 players, ref was a sh.itbag but turned scouse in the last 10 minutes.

I am with the positive posters.

you need to bear in mind that we where playing away to a GOOD team, with a generally good home record.

I thought Benítez's tactics and changes during the match where pretty much correct, as Middlesbrough were anticipated to attack from the off, but instead they played for a DRAW from the very start.

When you have a team, and I mean ANY team playing for a draw with lots of men behind the ball, it's EXTREMELY diifcult to carve up openings, but we actually did have quite a fw chances to win easily.

We bossed the game, showed gove movement and passing. Middlesbrough played as if it was a no-holds-barred boxing match, they where BRUTAL.

Sissoko was bloody EXCELLENT, he won so many balls in midfield and distributed the ball well.

Again, I repeat, Benítez's tactics where pretty much correct but if the players fail (i.e Gerrard missing 4 glaring chances), there's not much more you can do.

I can't fathom why so many of you are so depressed.

Things can only get better, we'll win the next one, no worries :nod

Cheers!

The first day of the season is always a different kettle of fish from the rest of the games, and I'm happy with the point. Ok, I'm not ecstatic, but I always fancy the home team on the opener, because it's more important for them to get off to a good start at home, whearas visitors are always looking to get some respect. We got that, and from what I hear, it was Lady Luck who pi55ed in our pockets again. I'm looking forward to Sunderland now. It should be a win, as long as we show respect, I can see us setting Anfield as a fortress once again.

1 point is nice, 3 would have been nicer, but I won't grumble.

ok ok calm down you lot! You kind of wonder sometimes that some people on here dont watch the matches.  Firstly, we were playing at Boro and from seasons gone by we normally do :censored:!

Today we stopped them from doing :censored: all!  Yes they were very cautious themselves but still I thought 4-5-1 was the right choice.

However when they went down to 10 men, I felt like we should have pushed Cisse up front and moved Stevie to the right hand side.  They were there for the taking at this point.

Also can we get off Garcia's back!  Yes he gives the balls away but I feel he is the only 1 who is suitable on right at the minute.
