They're really fooking me off now. If he was a terrorist I could understand it. Why do our Government have to be such c*cks? It's not like he's going to scav off the dole, with the occasional ram-raid to suppliment his income. I bet they wouldn't have refused it if the lad was joining Scum or sh*tski. B*stards.

I feel the same way. How is it his fault that his country isn't in the top 70?!? ???

And what would they have said if George Weah had wanted to join in his prime? - "Feck off, waster. So your world player of the year, eh? Knackers, if you were, Libya would be in the top 70!"??    A bunch of selotape testers are running this country. Why don't they wake up and realise that the rules are shat and need changing NOW!?!   :veryangry  :veryangry  :no  :help

I think Chile have 3 games left this year. Brazil, Colombia and Ecuador. I would only give them the edge against Ecuador. Mainly, because they're playing at home. Otherwise, I would bank them to lose each game. Luckily, draw one or two.

Anyway, hopefully the matter will be cleared up. Sooner than later.

Just one question, how did Southampton manage to get a work permit for Augustin Delgado? He was an Ecuadorian international, just unsure whether they were outside the top 70 teams or not. Rick Parry to the rescue, chief exec's job to sort this mess out/grease the palms of David Dein.

rafa really wants to get his man. if he's so keen on this fella then i can't wait to see him playing...

from sky sports:

Rafa still raging
by Paul Higham -  created on 9 Aug 2005

A fuming Rafa Benitez has insisted Mark Gonzalez should be allowed to play in The Premiership, while the Chilean still believes his Liverpool dream will come true.

21-year-old winger Gonzalez saw his dreams of playing for the European champions dashed when he was refused a work permit.

Benitez is still furious with the decision and insists the judges who enforced the rule know nothing about football.

The Spanish coach claims that Gonzalez, who is recovering from a knee injury, is easily good enough to play in England.

"He is playing for his national team, playing to a good level in the Spanish League against good players. But they say he is not good enough for the Premiership," said Benitez.

"You couldn't say that if you had seen him play.

"We spent six months scouting him. We are the Champions League winners and, if we think he's a good player and will improve our team, it's because we have been watching him for a long time.

"Only if you know nothing about football could you say he is not good enough for the Premier League.

"In Chile, they have sold about 1,000 Liverpool shirts - that's how important a player he is over there. Gonzalez is upset as well - he was about one month away from being fit.

"I tell you 50 percent of the players in the Premier League are worse than him.

"We will keep an interest in him and, hopefully, Chile will win some more games.

"Then we do not have to talk to people outside football over the quality of the player."

Albacete man Gonzalez is still hoping he will be able to pull on a red shirt in the future.

"I know that sooner or later I will be playing at Liverpool," said Gonzalez.

"I am sure this will be resolved. I am staying calm about this. It was something we feared."

its a crying shame that gonzales is refused a work permit, when there are thousands of migrants who get work permits at a drop of a hat. what about the infrigement to gonzales' human right to work??

I had been quite excited about Gonzalez, then gutted about his not getting a permit, but excited that we were chasing a guy that sounds really good, but then I read this quote by Rafa in an article on the Official website - "I would say 50 per cent of the players in the Premiership are worse than him". Very distressing our level of ambition - where would SAF have placed Kleberson!
