Get fowler back

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Owen has lost interest - there is no desire or urgency about him. We should try and get back the player who at his peak is absolutley deadly in front of goal - Fowler. He is starting to bang in goals for City and getting into scoring postions - he looks fit, hungry and sharp. It would be worth the effort because he is a born centre forward who he never really wanted to leave Liverpool anyway. What do we have to lose - if anyone thinks Houllier is going to magic up someone with half of Folwer's ability they are living in dreamland.

Sound good, what do you all think of that? Is it good idea or bad idea?

My heart says yes but the head says no !
If we could get the Robbie Fowler of 1993 - 1998 then a definite yes !
Unfortunately Robbie Fowler was not the same player once injuries took their toll.
I also think Houllier destroyed a lot of Fowler's confidence with his use of the rotation system and public doting of Owen and Heskey.
Yes Robbie is hitting the goals again but he is a few pounds heavier and a few yards slower than when he was at his peak.
The debate is purely academic so long as Houllier remains in charge anyway.

Of all the good players GH sent packing I do miss Fowler the most, he always had a possitive influence on the team and provided when we most needed him to. He didn't miss many penalties either  :;):
I'm not sure if he could perform for Liverpool so well today but would love to let him have a chance,

Fowler will always show signs of his former brilliant self. I would snap him up if I thought he could maintain his sharpness and fitness. IMO it would be worth the gamble if he became available for £5m

I still believe Fowler is past it.

Don't egt me wrong: he's one of my favourite Pool players ever, but his form in the last 12 months at Anfield was poor.

Some people blame GH but Fowler put on weight, lost a lot of his sharpness and concentration, and simply wasn't trying hard enough.

I remember watching him at Anfield missing a penalty against that Slovak team in 2000/2001: he was an absolute disgrace in that match.

^^ when gerard houllier left him on the bench all the time he probably lost confidence, motivation and talent.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of Fowler's and a massive critic of GH's, but Fowler must shoulder as much blame as GH for his decline.

In fact, in 1999/2000 after Fowler turned in a terrific performance for the Pool at Anfield against Arsenal, Gh described him as "one of the best players in the world" who is in "my long term plans" and even raved about Fowler was going to turn into a Denis Bergkamp type player.

Fowler couldn't hack the competition with the emergence of Owen and the arrival of Heskey.

I don't think bringing Fowler back to Anfield would be a good idea!

Fowler is not what he once was.

Houllier destroyed Fowler's confidence and it looks like he has done the same to Owen

Fowler? No. A huge talent which was wasted through his own lack of professionalism and laziness coupled with Houllier's inability to get the best out of him.
