TRAPPED ON BURNING PLANE

A plane carrying around 200 people is engulfed in flames after crashing, trapping scores of passengers inside.

The Air France plane crashed into a ravine after apparently overshooting the end of a runway at Toronto's Pearson Airport during thunder storms.

Huge plumes of smoke billowed from the plane as it lay near the edge Canada's busiest motorway.

One witness said she saw a large section of the jet plummet to the earth before the rest turned into a fireball as it attempted to land.

Around an hour after the first explosion, a second one prompted authorities to begin an evacuation of the area.

Flight AF358 was at the end of its flight from the French capital Paris to Toronto when it crashed; witnesses said it had been hit by lighting.

There was no immediate word on any injuries or deaths but one man said his wife had survived the flames.

Other onlookers said they saw the pilot, co-pilot and a number of passengers making their way off the plane.

A spokesman for Air France said it was not known how many people were on the Airbus A340, but media reports said that around up to 200 people were on board.

Peason International Airport, one of the busiest in the world, was said to have been under a red alert all day following violent storms and winds of 60mph.

Last report I saw said that there were no deaths and a possible 14 injured.
Considering that the plane went off the runway and went into a ditch! Also lucky the plane didnt go into the busiest highway in the city '401' (I think) as that would have been sheer carnage!

Obviously someone was looking over that plane last nigt, those people were extremely lucky......I think thy said it was possibly hit by lightening on approach (to the runway!).

sounds like a very lucky escape for all involved. Unfortunatley plane crashes usually end up in a large amount of deaths.

If someone had been looking out for it, would it have crashed at all? Best of luck to all involved. I hope no-one dies or is seriously injured.

BTW, planes are made to take lighting strikes.

i was watching the news thread for 3 hours on the story, the flames engulfed the plane after the passengers and crew got out. At the last time i heard their was 44 people sent to hospital with minor injures. Yesterday because of the humidity and air currents a thunderstorm sprung up, where i live, i only got a light rain. Their was a news reporting with a camera capturing the weather when he saw the plane crash, he got footage of it happening.

workers at pearson International always monitor planes and check on how they are doing, aswell as weather conditions and other factors. They were monitoring its progress.
