Darren potter - Not a winger!

i`d have to disagree with you there mate, i think he`s looked most effective when he`s played wide right and has space to run into. i`ve mentioned in another thread that i dont think he`s the type of player who will get the tap ins or enough scrappy goals to be considered a traditional leader of the line.
his close control of the ball isnt up to the standard where he can operate in traffic either so i think he`s already subconciously realised that to find the space he needs to utilise his pace he has to drift right of centre and in pre season its in those area`s he has been picking up the ball and moving naturally.
the times when he has caught the eye is when he has caught balls heading for the touchline that looked basically out and still managed to get a decent cross in.

Fair points made but I rather us find a natural right winger.

I agree Potter is not a winger, But i think he is a decent squad player however i doubt he will get in at centre midfield so rafa is trying him in a position were we lack depth.

He didn't do too bad, but I wouldnt play him there in the premiership or FA cup.

As for Ciise he is playing wide forward useing his pace. He would be good there, but he also drifts in and plays well, just increases options during the game. He could improve his crossing tho.

Crouch will be top scorer in the system rafa wants to play (i think)

yeah, maybe your right.
i just cant see him getting those goals that go in off your knee or backside. maybe i`m trying to fit a square peg into a round hole.

i havent seen that much of him before he came here but to me he doesnt show the strikers instinct to get in the box and sniff out chances. i just dont see him following up rebounds or challenging centre halfs in the air. i could be wrong though.

He is more of a pick up rebounds and slot through balls away, more of a to the feet sort of guy, I watched a highlight package of him in auxerre when he bagged like 30 goals 20 of them where him getting a pass into his feet at the edge of the box  or just inside, then a quick turn and slot sort of thing.

Reason being for a natural right winger is because with one it gives us creativity and edge. Not to mention that we need good crosses delievered giving us a chance to score in the air, something that we didn't do much last season due to the fact that we didn't have natural wingers.

Zenden imo solves the problem on LM but we still have a gap on the RM.

Potter is a decent player when we are short of options on the right but from what i have seen so far, he does not cross at all that well.

We need a proper right midfielder, like Figo. I read in the local papers in my parts of the world that Inter Milan is certain to get Figo (permanently) and Walter Samuel (on a season loan) from Real Madrid. How reliable or true, I don't know.

Potter is not a 1st team liverpool player. I think we will find that he will be used this season for the Carling cup and FA cup.

Last night in the 1st half he was at the half way line and played a good ball forward which created space behind the full back but instead of moving into the space for the return pass he stood still any attacking winger would have sprinted into the space wanting a return pass. I know this is only one attack im highlighting but showed for me that Potter is not the answer

right winger or not, the guy has got talent. I think that Rafa rates him highly to be giving him so many opportunities.
