Peter crouch - Crouch deal agreed for seven million

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

I think that criticising Rafa's signings is ridiculous. I mean not many players make an immediate impact, Henry, Viera, Pires.....they all took a season or more to settle in and become the players they are today. In that respect with the likes of Alonso and Garcia I think Rafa has done a great job. Everyone goes on about Arsene Wenger, and yeah he has done a very good job at Arsenal but lets give Rafa a chance. His two big flops were hardly big money signings, Nunez came as part of the price for Owen and Pellegrino was free....I mean hardly a catastrophe is it? Any player and indeed manager needs time to settle in and I think that Rafa's transfer forrays will prove to be very successful indeed.

How is Crouch worth more than Morientes and Garcia?

he aint! simple as!.........

we were blackmailed into giving southampton a nice transfer kitty to spend in division one mate!

Rubber faced ,harry redknapp comment...."if LFc want him, they are going to have to pay up! "

Rick parry thought this was good business somehow? but not the small sum to Real madrid for a glimpse of that Figo magic for 1 or 2 seasons! what a hefty 2 m?

I think 2 million plus figo's wage demands and the fact that he is getting older not better compared to 7 million and the fact that crouch won't ask a retarded fee and his ability is getting better makes it look like we dished out on a better deal.

Figo is class, but we do not know how he will perform in the prem. Crouch we do, so why not " play it safe " I know its kind of a bold thing to say in this regard, but I believe its true

Its a fair point, but Crouch maybe on a 50k a week deal now?

Heskey was and figo only wanted 65k. not bad in terms.

no one know the true figures unless they were sat in the boardroom with the player/his agent and rick parry.

Wasnt really behind signing Crouch at first. But im definately willing to give him a chance.

Rafa keeps talking about improving our options - we have been FAR too predictable over the last few seasons and you cant argue with the fact that he HAS improved our squad in that respect. I think Rafa will definately sign Figo now - even if he costs a couple of quid. I'd imagine it was a case of both Crouch&Figo together or else neither. it would seem to fit into his 'plan'.

Sorry, but these need mentioning:

Crouch - 6'8"
Koller - 6'7"
Ibrahimovic - 6'4"
Ferguson - 6'3"
Heskey - 6'2"

and...

Rio - 6'2"
Terry - 6'2"
Campbell - 6'1"

You do the f**king maths. The guy will be heading balls with his feet planted on the ground ahead of people that are jumping as high as they can.

He'll win headers against rio, terry, and campbell.  :D

some good crosses and crouchy might be worth more than 7 mil.

Well he's signed and there's nothing we can do about it, so we might as well just put it behind us and look forward to seeing how he does.

Rafa speaks on Crouch

Rafael Benitez has spoken of his excitement at the imminent arrival of Peter Crouch and explained how the England international will add a new dimension to Liverpool's game.
Crouch will finalise his move from Southampton after undergoing a medical on Wednesday. He'll sign a four-year deal with the Reds and join up with his new team-mates at their Swiss training camp.

Benitez is a big admirer of the tall striker since watching him score against Liverpool at St Mary's in January and he's relishing the prospect of having him in his ranks for the new season.

"He is a player I like," says Benitez. "I hope to see the player tomorrow, or maybe in two days in Switzerland. He is another kind of player for us. He is good in the air, he can keep the ball and play the ball.

"When you think about playing away we had many problems to keep the ball and with Peter we have many options.

"We lost eleven games away from home last season and so we needed to change things. Crouch will give us more possibilities. He keeps the ball well, he can bring others into the game and we'll be able to go forward more. I know what he can do and I am sure he will do a good job for us."

garcia: , thas my opinion... dnt loose too much sleep over it faggot.

arson: we were the only ones besides chelsea willing to pay £750k

So because we were the only two he's a bad keeper? Wtf kind of theory is that ya tumblesh1t?

orientes: ur excuse for him hasnt made him worth £6M yet has it? no.. so wats ur point?

Whats your point? When he plays a full season then judge whether he's worth 6 million or not.

crouch: take that penis out of ur mouth n read the bit i sed about the "other side of the coin"

Learn how to type properly then perhaps I'll read your entire post.

maybe crouch will come good, but im sick of reading "have faith in rafa" ...benitez has not done anything special in the transfter market in the last 13months... ur still caught up in champions' league hysteria. he is a master tactician and 2nd to non in man-managment, but again... not exactly an arsene wenger in the transfer market.

Alonso-special
Garcia- 13 goals in his first season, 8 goals in the Premiership,5 goals in the Champions League, thats f#cking special. That's a better first season record than what Pires in his first season at Arsenal who was called sh1t but proved himself later on. The fact of the matter is that all footballers have weaknesses, yes Garcia gives the ball away but he can improve and that still doesn't change the fact that he scored a hell of a lot of goals that have helped us.

Morientes- can't judge him because he hasn't had a full season to prove himself

Nunez and Josemi did their part which was to provide cover, they weren't top class players but they gave little depth when we needed it. Josemi was solid in his first couple of games but something happened later on. Nunez was never Rafa's choice, it was another winger from Real Madrid.

All Wenger's signings weren't mangificent but they played their part in some way or another.

Harry redknapp said something about lfc offering him 8 times the pay. Maybe he's just exaggerating  ???

I think Rafa thinks that Height can not be learned. With Crouch also very good with his feet, you would never know how good he can be. I think he is really suitable for the EPL. Looking back for the last couple of seasons, we did not score many headers from Corner kick. This can really give us another option. Most of you here complain about Crouch and in general, the number one thing is because he is ugly. For this I agree but as for overpaying for the transfer fees, I think we don't know that until after the season ends. I would keep my fingers crossed as Crouch is now a LFC player. Lets just give our support.

Thats very true. Sami didn't score one header from a corner last season and that  was a big source of goals for us 2 seasons ago.

All Soton players had their wages cut in half after they got knocked out of the Premiership. So it depends what he was making at Soton and Rednkapp may had exaggerated a bit.
