According to this article, Benithez has made an offer for Gabriel Milito under the headline "Benítez puts down £7.5m for Milito". I did not see much of the Confederations Cup and did not see him in action.

Isn't it a bit steep, at that amount? However, an English defender would cost at least 20% more, a really good one will cost an arm and a leg...

Despite mounting speculation about Rafael Benitez preparing to bring a new centre half to the club, Liverpool Chief Executive Rick Parry says the club are about to offer Sami Hyypia a new contract.
Parry confirmed the Reds interest in bringing a new defender to Anfield as Liverpool need a big squad to cope with the amount of matches they are scheduled to play this season.

Parry said: "We will be talking to Sami about a new deal.

"We're interested in bringing at least one more centre-half to the club because Sami and Jamie can't be expected to play 50 games every season without any back-up."

There is this peculiar problem associated only with a commodity called "human".

Although there is a contract, if the player chooses not to honour it, there is little for the club to do, especially if he or she is very much coveted by rivals. The best option is to sell him.

If Milito does an Anelka or Ronaldo and refuse to train or sulf etc., the best thing is for them to sell him. Only thing is that these kind of behaviour does not go down well with Benithez. I am sure he does not want these characters, and maybe Milito will not do these things...

Why not go for his little brother, Anton who plays for West Ham? He fits a lot of the criteria we want. Good Pedigree from Les and Rio, He's worked with one of the best youth systems around at West Ham, he's young, he's strong and he keeps getting better every year. He wouldn't cost much, and he might be worth it. Of course we won't, and your all probably have a go at me for even mentioning it, but that's life right?
