Yes, you can only beat whats put in front of you, and we did that. The main worries were morientes' lack of sharpness and pace, but its early days and there's plenty of time for improvement
Steve Gerrard Gerrard,
He'll pass the ball 40 yards,
He's quick and he's f*cking hard,
Steve Gerrard Gerrard.

Hmmm, funny one this one. Le Tallec (IMO) definetly has the abilty, i can really see it screaming to get out, he has a good first touch, good passer and has decent pace too. But he somehow flatters to deceive, he just does enough, but not much more. Maybe this is because he doesnt want to make mistakes (which is fair enough), but i think he should really try and let his ability flourish and play his natural game, which i think is a very creative one with intelligence.
He must show this in training, otherwise he would not have played against Juve (i know we had injuries but still!) and nor would he have played today (IMO). If he doesnt come out of his shell, his career is gonna stall (as has begun a bit already). Could end up a bit like Potter and be just bit a fringe squad player. If he fails to impress or rather fulfill his potential this could be his last season at Anfield. However i have taken into acoount the hard work he puts in and runs he made to open gaps for Mori and the Midfielders too when giving him his score.

7/10

Agree wholeheartedly with this view.

I know this may sound like I hate the guy which i don't, but....

He has been here a little while now, certainly long enough to settle in. Maybe he is trying too hard to impress as has been suggested, but is he ever going to stop 'trying too hard to impress'? Or is what we see what we are gonna get?

This is Liverpool Football Club - why should mediocre, average, passable, not bad, reasonable, okay, alright, etc etc be acceptable to us.

Sure, he might in 5 years go on to be the best player the world has ever seen, but we need top players NOW, players that can drag us back to the top of the English (and European) game, a position we have been away from for far too long.

Last season everytime I saw the name Pellegrino in the starting eleven my heart sank as I felt confident that during the game he would make an error that would lead to an opposition goal (not always true in reality I know, but did he ever have a really good game?). When I see ALT's name in the eleven I feel that there is a certain 'reserve' feel about the way we are approaching the game. And since he hasn't exactly delivered the goods on the pitch why perservere? Do we have no other reserve strikers on our books that are at least his equal?

I find this whole 'more competitve matches' a bit of a lame excuse against the likes of TNS and doesnt really wash with me, Morientes has had 2 weeks preseason training and a game against wrexham, Im sorry but a 29 year old full spanish international, former galctico who was top scorer in champions league 2 seasons ago against a team of TNS standard, should be doing a lot more, a hell of a lot more......How many competitive matches had TNS had before last night? ????

can see your point, but, nando used to be playing in la liga, which is totally different ball game to what we play over here in britain. T.N.S, as rafa feared before would be more physical.
i think nando needs to work on using his strength (because he does have it), plus a little bit more pace from the lad wouldn't go a miss!

Yeah, cant work out whether he just cant be ar$ed at imes or he is just too unfit, the only moment ive really loved from morientes was his header against fulham, im not hving a go at morientes i just expected a lot more from him, and like i said it was are 1st game o the season so you cant really read to much into it

Thing is though 'PACE' is something that you CANT develop through training, you either naturally have it or you dont.
Morientes sadly lacks it, but doesnt mean too much, as he makes up for it with other abilities a la Teddy Sheringham.

Agree though with G-Mac that, all this 'he needs more games' b.*ll*c*ks, is just that -B>*ll*c*ks. He has been here since January and has had PLENTY of time to 'Adjust'.
I am not having a go here btw, it is just simple fact.

Anyway if he needed more games then how come he scored two against Wrexham, I dont recall people saying that 'he needs time' after that game at the weekend.

because it wasn't a COMPETITIVE match.
the only reason why he scored 2 goals was because neither team were taking it seriously.
its just a kickabout really.

Ok so if we go on your 'not taking it seriously' angle, then yeterday was 'serious' and therefore he should have played even better than he did on saturday No??

i think he did play better.
you can see that he was really determined to score.
he had at least 2 clear cut opportunities to score, but he didn't due to the keeper making very good saves.

No the first chance he scuffed his shot and the header in the second half went over the bar...What are you talking about. It was nothing to do with the keeper, it was all to do with poor finishing, just because he plays for Liverpool doesnt mean he cant do anything wrong ffs, I'm sorry but i disagree with you completely, he DID NOT play well yesterday, there were flashes of what he can do and bring to the team, but thats it 'flashes'....I have had enough of flashes i want to see the end product now.

SO THE F.UCK WHAT FFS !!!!

If i was playing i would also be 'determined to score' doesnt mean i should be playing does it??

I am not saying he shouldnt be playing, I am just saying that 'being determined' isnt enough and also doesnt really back up your point that he played better, it looks (from the way you wrote your post) like you are saying he played better and this was seen through his determination to get a goal.... ???
