Captaincy - Gerrard or carra

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

after gerrards doubts on whether he wants to play for liverpool, maybe it is time to pass the captaincy onto a 110% dedicated liverpudlian, carra.
it might even improve gerrard taking the captaincy away.
look at what happened with sami....

Remain status quo, no point rocking the boat.

Stevie deserves to remain our captain. He is a true leader and so is Jamie but since Stevie has been wearing the armband, i guess Mr Carragher won't bother too much coz he knows that Mr Gerrard is committed to the job.

I think that both Gerrard and Carragher are more than 100 % dedictated to the club. It's not becoz Stevie wanted to leave that he is not dedictated and as he said it, he just thought he was unwanted at anfield.

Yeah.. talk like this might cause him to feel uncertain. After all, he's extremely sensitive in that sense and might feel us FANS are snubbing him...

Since he's decided to dedicate the rest of his playing career to lfc, i say he keeps it and let's hope it motivates him to greater success...

I don't think it matters as the armband is only for show. The team knows who to respect. I think the likes of Hyypia or Carra are seen as the alternate captain in their teammate eyes.

The best player at the moment is SG ..... he is the "main engine" in our midfield . As for the vice capt it will be one of these two player , carra or alonso .

Yeah totally with you on this one, although Gerrard might wear the oversized captains armband, when the chips are down or when orders are shouted the players will listen to Carragher anyway.
Its good to have more than one leader on the pitch.
Taking it off Gerrard would just cause problems with the team spirit and probably create a divide.

Steven already offered to give up the armband but Rafa said no, he knows that SG is right to wear it. Yes Carra and Hyypia could also be good but im sure they may get there chances as i dont think SG will play every single game.

it's always been my opinion that your captain should lead from the front. in my dark distant past as a sunday league player(yes,we all had trials, just that mine were at crown court!!) i was happier knowing that my captain could influence the game, the same can't be said for a defender.

Have to disagree on that one, most of the best captains have been centre halves, bobby moore, tony adams, Hansen, phil thommo even dare i say it Bruce at the scum.
A defender has the ability to see the whole game and organise the team positionally.
Am still of the opinion that Stevie G should stay skipper, no point rocking the boat...but to say that defenders dont inluence the game is bizarre. :eyebrow

could any of the above have had the ability to grab the game by the scruff of the neck, a la stevie g in the final? the above mentioned players are of a similar ilk, they gained captaincy through well-earned respect for their supremacy and reliability in their position. most defender captains can only cajole and shout to their players ,whereas the midfield ones can lead by example. i was always more motivated on the field seeing this.

I think of Carragher as less mature than Stevie (even though he's older).  He'd make a great captain, but seeing as Stevie is sooooooo sensitive maybe it's best he has it.
