Former Liverpool full back Gregory Vignal has agreed to join Portsmouth on a free transfer.
Vignal was released by The Reds at the end of last season after almost five years on Merseyside but he failed to make a significant impression.
He spent last term on loan at Rangers and has also undertaken spells at Rennes and Espanyol and has now managed to clinch a deal to stay in The Premiership.
The 23-year-old has concurred on a two-year contract with Pompey and has also passed a medical at Fratton Park.
The defender is due to finalise his move once he has resolved some minor issues with Liverpool and Pompey are delighted with the deal.
"We are very pleased that another quality signing is set to join the club and who can be an asset to us in a number of positions," chairman Milan Mandaric told the club's official website.
"He has shown his worth at Rangers last season and the competition for places at Pompey will be that much healthier."
Vignal had been linked with a string of clubs since learning he was no longer required by Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez.
Newcastle, Marseille and Stuttgart expressed interest, while Auxerre, Ajax and Feyenoord were also among his suitors before he plumped for a two-year contract at Portsmouth.
To be honest when I saw this guy he looked promising but like many others was never given a chance. All thats left is to say goos luck to him really.
