Benitez agrees terms for figo - From the liverpool echo

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

:D I've always rated Figo highly, he's the original Cristiano Ronaldo.  At 32 he's still fairly quick, has mountains of experience, a winning attitude, incredible skill and the ability to turn even the most defensive minded team inside out with a moment of magic.  On top of it all he can play on either wing, as a second striker, in the central midfield (at a pinch) speaks flawless english and most importantly he's better than what we've already got on the wings :D

Just got a copy of Figo's goal scoring record off the Real Madrid website ..... There's no doubt he is past his SELL BY date ... he might be good for the CL but I can's see him starring in the Prem. Anyway we shouldnt pay a penny for him if we do get him.

             LEAGUE                           CUP                           CHAMPIONS
Season 00/01 9 goals in 34 matches ---------               5  goals in 14 matches
Season 01/02 7 goals in 28 matches 1 goal 1n 6 matches 3 goals in 11 matches
Season 02/03 10 goals in 33 matches 1 match played              2 goals in 15 matches
Season 03/04 9 goals in 36 matches 2 goals in 6 matches 2 goals in 10 matches

All we've got was a goal scoring record. What abt the assists? Also considering he was only coming on as a sub most of 2nd half of last season - that would have a serious bearing on the goal scoring record. ALternatively, look at the no. of CL goals he scored last season... if i'm not mistaken, it's more than baros...

Figo isn't all about scoring, we want quality width and someone who deliver a quality ball in for the height of Cisse and Morientes :;):

I wasn't keen when i first heard the Figo rumours particularly as i believed it would involve paying him 80k+ wages but with him evidently agreeing to a more realistic salary the idea has grown on me. Figo's professional attitude and winning mentality + the ability he still possesses could be just what this team needs. As a few have already pointed out, the parrallels with Gary Mac are obvious.

As for the fee - It sounds like bullsh.it to me. I'm pretty sure Figo is entitled to some sort of a pay-off from Madrid if they let him go for nowt. By demanding a fee this late in the day (ie. after personal terms have been agreed with LFC) Perez will probably force Figo to waive any settlement he is entitled to (in exchange for waiving the 2m transfer fee.)

I would expect to see Figo arrive on a free within 7 days.

we shouldnt entertain the concept of giving madrid a single red penny after they pinched MO for a world record discount. Free or forget it!

their manager has 'warned' Figo that he will be let go unless his attitude improves  :D

classic, the guy is begging to be released and the manager threatens him with a transfer  :D
