Maybe during that time he's on drug ...... again

But what do you do ? He is a great player and he would walk into any team in the world .Would you rather have him with us or against us?
I just have this horrible feeling that we've not seen the end of this matter.

I've said many many times last season that I'd like to keep gerrard the player, but Gerrard the Captain is an absolute joke. We;ve just had the opportunity to do that and didn't. Why???

Stevie Me was prepared to to sign a new deal and give up the arm band. Surely that would have been the best solution all round??

Is there ever an easier decision to make??

I mean, we'd get to keep a good player (Gerrard) and also get a 100% reliable, consistent and unswerving loyal Captain in Jamie Carragher to take us forward.

Maybe it's just me, but this just seems really obvious. I reckon we've missed one of the best opportunities ever there, I really do.

As a manager I'm sure Rafa is relieved to have kept hold of Gerrard the player, but how can he not see that he's the worst Captain ever??

To me, making him a regular team player again (which the player himself was happy to do) would be the best thing that could happen to him, and for LFC. Me-me would get less attention from the media, and the new Captain, Carra, would be an unserving, 100% loyal and dedicated Captain who could truly lead by example.

Then Me-Me could just get on with playin footy again and get back to his best without the stress of being Captain. Hey presto, everyone's a winner. We get a good Captain, Me-Me starts performing again and we can start to be a team again and not the Steven Gerrard ego massage machine that we've become.

Can anyone on earth seriously say, with a straight face, that Carra wouldn't make a better Captain than The Ego? Seriously? I defy even his most ardent supporters to truly believe that.

Even Gerrard himself must now know that he isn't a good Captain as he offered to give it up!!

So, we can all see it, even Steven Gerrard can see it, so why the f#ck did we let him keep the arm band??? I reckon it's that that pisses me off more than the fact he's still here to be honest.

I said it last August and some scoffed, but I'll say it again now: As soon as we go on a bad run, or things aren't going the way Steven Gerrard wants them to be going, then how do you know that our so-called "Captain" won't be looking around again and getting unsettled.

Why take the chance?? He's already had one chance and the benefit of the doubt once before, and look what happened!!!!

Is that the attitude, confidence level and the vision that we really want in our Captain?? I wouldn't want that kind of worry if i was recruiting someone to work in a chippy, nevermind the Captain of one of the worlds greatest football clubs!!

A fair-weather employee is the worst kind you can have. But a fair-weather captain is just stupid.

I guess i have to live with the fact that the selfish idiot is still here, but surely it's an even bigger mistake that we didn't take the arm band from him when he offered it?

As you may be able to tell, I'm still wound up about the whole situation.

Oh well, walk on....

Stmichael i like the name you have given Steven Gerrard...'ME-ME'  absolute perfect name for him with the attitude he has displayed for the last 15months or so.

I truly agree. Right now Rafael Benitez has become just another manager, without authority and without personality. Steven Gerrard IS Liverpool F.C. That's very sad! No player should be bigger than the club. I'm very surprised of Rafa. I thought he was much stronger. At Valencia he was the boss, and when a "puppet" in the executive team opposed him, after winning La Liga and the EUFA cup, he said "adios". When Rafa heard the news of Gerrard leaving, he should have said "good luck, Gerrard, thank you". At the same time take the huge amount of money coming from Chelsea or Real, and buy several players who could make a very big difference next year. At least he should have taken the captain armband and give it to the one who really deserves it...Of course, Carra!
I have the feeling if Liverpool does not win a big trophy this coming year, like the Premiership or the CL, Benitez will be a casualty, and he'll be gone.
It was amazing that the crybaby was awarded a few extra days to rest for the "stress" :D , a huge salary increase, and to make him feel he is the king of Anfield. Amazing!!!

Sorry Viva i am not too sure who you are agreeing with here, but anyways......

To be honest I think Rafa was happy to see Gerrard go and (in my opinion) this could be seen from some of his comments at the press conference on Monday (reading between the lines and all). He would have been grateful for the money to re-structure the team around Alonso.
But it is not to be, and he obviously rates Gerrard as a PLAYER and will still appreciate the ability he brings to the team, but i think he has serious questions about his attitude, affect on the team and basically is not too sure of Steven Gerrard THE MAN.

Rafa realises what Gerrard is - a kid with an immense talent. Kids need to see they're loved. Rafa knows what Gerrard can do at the top of his game, so he gives him what he needs. At least Gerrard is now acting like he knows he's been an :censored: so there's every reason to believe its all gravy now.
As for Benitez getting the sack - no way - Liverpool managers get 5 years if they are any where near good enough. The CL has guaranteed him that long. But would you want to be a foreign manager coming to a club like Liverpool and be responsible for losing 2(Owen & Gerrard) of the best talents the club has ever produced? Strong he may be but that must have been weighing on his mind............

i cant wait for the season to really get going and all these people giving gerrard down the banks will be the same ones calling him the greatest player of all time in a few months.
give the lad some credit, okay he hasnt been his usual self but at least he stayed, the likes of wayne rooney, alan smith, rio ferdinand, frank lampard, joe cole etc all bailed out on the clubs they supported as kids to contracts far less lucrative than the one gerrard was offered. maybe gerrard doesnt have slogans on his t-shirt in the vein of  "once a blue......." and maybe he doesnt kiss the badge like lampard used to do at west ham every week (and does now at chelsea) but he showed his true love for his club when it came down to the crunch, something no other player in his position has done.
