And well, well, deserved.  :)

I would say it's a certainty and to expect an announcement on the new club captain hierachy in the next few days.

Benitez' new general on the pitch will be Xabi Alonso, but Carragher is now the beating heart of the club.

One of the two will do for me, but my head tells me Carragher will be the next Liverpool Captain.

To be honest, even if Gerrard had stayed, I'd have stripped him of the captaincy and given it to Carra anyway. On performances and in terms of the leadership he's shown on the field, Jamie's earned it for me anyway, so there's no way it should feel like a hand-me-down.

It is sad, but the benefits will outstrip the negatives. At least we won't worry about Gerrard leaving anymore and we will have a true captain whose heart is with us wholly.

King Carra!!!!!!!
Mourinho was customizing his flashy blue racing car -- applying the finishing touches of go-faster stripes, aerodynamic spoilers and a fat f@ck you exhaust -- while on his red car, Benitez was trying to glue together a broken chassis, repair bodywork and replace burst tyres.

Absolutely delighted that gerrard is staying, no question.

I have to say though that I'd still make Carra captain this season.  Gerrard is not setting a good example by doing this 'will i won't i' 2 years in a row.  Gerrard needs to prove to the fans that his heart is well and truly in this club, and by relinquishing the armband to Carra would maybe prove to the fans that he's not the big-time Charlie that many think he's become.

For me, Gerrard standing aside for Carra is the best way for him to build bridges with the fans, and by not having the pressure of being captain, maybe gerrard can get back to the consistency he had the season before last.

I admire Gerrard for offering the armband. I think the whole thing was a fairly big misunderstanding.
