Sensationalising stories is nothing new, and in the same way that the newspapers will never let the truth get in the way of a good story, Sky sports and Sky Sports News are notorious for reporting on something on a hunch in the hope it proves to be correct and they look like they got the story first.
I am shocked at the number of people who have had sometimes heated discussions about our captains future based on the "reports" in Sunday tabloids and Sky Sports. You see when a story reports that :
A source close to Steven Gerrard confirmed" he is well gonna leave"
this means that a reporter who once spoke to Gerrard dring a press confrence for ten seconds ten years ago thinks he is going to leave. Do not ever trust anything reported as from a source or friend of the player. Any friend of stevie's will not be running to the papers with stories of division.
SFX are the people to blame here, and I hope that Stevie sees this and looks at another agent, but in all honesty its a case of the lesser of two evils if he leaves, nothing more.
Is it in the best intrests of their client that SFX decide to share their perceptions of the rigmarole with the gutter press?
Is it just me or is the fact that SFX appear to beleive that clubs deliver trophies to players totally wide of the mark. I've always thought that it was in fact the exact opposite, the other way around, and the rewards for doing so were made accordingly. Therefore Liverpool should be demanding that the player delivers the coveted League title next season. In fact if SFX are correct in their assumption, then the bigger question here must surely be asked of Gerrard, as an ambitious young player, and what exactly is he offering to the club in return for the trophy we delivered for him in Istanbul?
Whilst I do not advocate the witch hunt and obliteration of all football agents. We have been well served by some, and equally how many footballer from yesteryear is set up for life after their playing carear ends, not too many, they needed all the help they could get. Just look at Pele, Best and many legends left penniless after their glorious careaers. SFX need to take a real good look at themselves here.
