Gerrard - looks like he's learnt from last year - Think he's really off this time

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby 7_Kewell » Mon Jul 04, 2005 1:20 pm

Rafa has just promised the world to Stevie if he stays at Liverpool.....basically he's offered to make the guy a legend.  It's all up to Stevie now, can he think for himself and decide?

It's good now that Madrid is in the mix as it can only increase his transfer price. Imagine if Chelsea is the only team bidding, no doubt they will try to screw us over.
So, for that it is now CARRA FOR CAPTAINCY.... (sounds just right :) )

I have a sinking feeling thet Stevie is going to go. I thought the before the press conferance that the reports that liverpool wanted to sell Stevie were rubbish and the press conferance seems to have confirmed that with Rafa stating that he wands steven to stay.

The only conclusion i can come to is the Steven wants to leave liverpool but isn't prepared to accept any blame, he wants us all to think that the club are forcing him out so that he can go without any backlash from the fans.

I hope i am wrong in this and that it is just his agents acting on there own but i think he must have some input in ehat they do.

I just wish he would either sign or state publicly that he wants to leave.

He has been brilliant for the club and this whole mess is just souring everything. At least if he states thet he wants to go we can get on with things and not have this saga hanging over everything.

Don't take from this post that i want Steven to leave. I think he is a world class player and I want him at LFC. But if his heart is not in it anymore he should go. And we should respect his decision. At least if he goes this year we will get a good price for him whereas if he doesn't sgin a new contract and leaves next summer we will not get his full value.

i don't think anyone here would disagree about Gerrard's talent.  He's a great midfielder who can change games.....however, none of us, Rafa included, are perpared to be taken for mugs either.  I find it incredibly insulting to hear that Gerrard was offered a new contract talks 3 times, yet he dicked us about....and when he wants to talk we are suppose to drop everything and run to him?  i'm sorry, but whose paying who here???  Gerrard has had the best of both worlds.....he's played the liverpool hero and he has also played the judas....waiting to see if we are successful before deciding to stay or not!

Speak up now Gerrard or fook off....i'm, for one, am sick and tired of this never ending merry go round of transfer talk.  If he really wants to stay, he will....because Parry and Rafa will go round to his house now with a contract for him to sign.....but if his heart isn't in it...he will be gone come this time next week.

Well like John said at the beginning of this thread, if Gerrard wnts to make it difficult for the club, he can...go p*ssed off. Sad but the fact being the lure of big money to a glamour club is difficult for a young man at his prime to resist. However, we must also remember McMoneyman & Owen. Two local lads who decided to bite the fingers off the club who made them by stalling the contract talk with the club? Don't think Rafa will stand for all these bs. It's not difficult to gauge one's loyalty for the club. If Gerrard has decided, he can go and nothing we can do about it. Only to hope that with his transfer fees, Rafa will be able to unearth yet another gem

Santa ,not sure what you mean by the word "unearth" Alonso and Morientes were hardly unknown talents,it's not as if Rafa discovered them.

If Gerrard does go and we end up with a stack of cash I'm not convinced  it automatically follows that a line of world class players suddenly want to join us or that Rafa will magically produce some previously unknown "Wonder kid" .It would be nice but I don't think it's gonna happen .
I'm very happy with the signing of Zenden and Raina ,both good players but hardly "top of the shop"

They are a bloody sight better than the rubbish we were buying a couple of years ago but Raffa's strong point is his ability to get the most out of the right type  of player.
We shouldn't get obsessed with the idea of signing Maradonas I'd rather have a good player giving 100% than a great one giving 75% and Raffa is the boss to get 100 percenters playing as a team.

WTF ! Who said anything about signing Maradonna ? .My point is simply ,you lose a world class player ,you would hope to replace him with someone approaching that calibre but having the cash doesn't mean you'll get who you want. As for a good player giving 100% versus great one giving 75% ,it only takes a second to score a goal, you don't always need a milan baros (good player) huffin and puffin his way through a game leakin' buckets of honest endeavour and achieving fk all . Gimme a Michael Owen (great player) sometimes seemed disinterested but could turn a game in the blink of an eye without apparently breaking sweat.
Liverpool were famous for signing apparently average players and making them great (Keegan,Rush, Souness to name but a few ) however those days seem long gone . Rafa's signed two class players in Morientes and Alonso .I had my doubts about Garcia but as the season progressed he got better. Nunez ,Josemi and Pellegrino have (putting kindly) been a disappointment. Rafa' repeatedly returns to La Liga for the bulk of his signings, not surprised as it the mkt he knows best . It does chillingly remind me of a certain frenchman I can only hope Rafa proves to be more astute ,  two of todays captures an 18 year old who has never played for the senior team and a winger with damaged knee ligaments who can't play until October at the earliest are hardly inspiring.

I cannot think of a game when Michael Owen didn't give 100% and I don't equate running around like a headless chicken as giving 100%.
The days of turning bargains into great players have not gone, we've just not had the management to do it. I do not see Raffa as the type to be persuded by agents into buying :censored:.
How you can describe Baros as good  but feel a bit shady over Garcia is beyond me

The saga has taken another turn tonight with speculation that Gerrard met with Benitez and Parry at Melwood this evening without SFX. :D

I suspect this story has legs in it yet. :D

It looks almost certain that a meeting did indeed take place this evening, and there are multiple sources on the web confirming this. I'm looking for the text of the Parry interview with the Echo, as I think he is quoted as saying this morning that a meeting was scheduled.

I'm out in the Irish sea tomorrow, fishing, but I'll know the truth tomorrow night (if it hasn't broken already).
I'll say now that the problem isn't about money or what position he plays, it's all about EGO. The boy is too big for his socks and, if by yet another miracle, he should stay then it will be a different Steven Gerrard we will be watching.
If some brown nose tells you that your the best thing since sliced bread, all day every day,and that you should be treated extra special to everyone else, in the end you forget where you come from and start believe it. You think that you know better than the boss and that if you want to you could be the next Pope. The next step is to play for one of the fantasy clubs be it Chelsea or Real Madrid. Leave the real world and go along with the rubbish spouted by the junior Don Kings in the football agents world and play for the bi-polar retard Jose or the latest court jester at Real.
