What should we base them on , smoke signals a la the vatican ?. We could of course close the forum and not bother having any conversation or debate and just wait for the team sheet to be announced each week .  :D

Yes indeed he is but the club have to be realistic. They dont want him to get to the last year of his contract and leave for a silly amount like what MO left for.

Hell be gone by Thurday for sure.

if he does go, i think Rafa is the guy whom i'd say would be able to spend 30million on 2 or 3 world class players.

oh well, on the positive....it's probably been delayed because (obviously of Gerrard) but also Riena is having his medical today, so they might hold fire and unviel them together.

RAFA: I WANT STEVIE TO STAY
Paul Eaton 04 July 2005
Rafael Benitez today insisted he wants Steven Gerrard to remain a Liverpool player.
Speaking at a news conference at Melwood, the Reds manager quashed speculation that he wants his captain to leave the club by insisting Gerrard has a major role to play in his Anfield future.

He said: "I can assure our fans that we want Steven Gerrard to stay with us.

"I renew my deal with Liverpool in four or five years and when I do I would like Stevie to be my next coach, assistant manager and maybe even the next manager after me. He can even have the chief scout position if he wants it.

"I want him to stay with the club. We are trying to build a better team and a better squad and I want Stevie to be a major part of that.

"Last season I tried to get Stevie to sign a new deal three times. On each occasion he said wait, so we waited.

"This year we want to win more trophies and that is why we are improving our squad with new signings."

No Zenden has had a press conference but it was overshadowed by this gerrard saga.

New Liverpool signing Boudewijn Zenden today spoke of his delight after completing his free transfer move from Middlesbrough to Anfield.
The Dutch star signed his contract this morning and was paraded in front of the media at Melwood at lunchtime.

Before the press conference he spoke exclusively to Liverpoolfc.tv and revealed the scenes he witnessed from the club's supporters during and after the Champions League final in May helped convince him to make the move to Anfield.

Zenden said: "I am absolutely delighted to be signing for Liverpool. When a club like this comes in for you then you don't need asking twice.

"Rafa Benitez was a big influence in me coming here but the biggest influence was Liverpool FC as a name and its magnificent fans.

"I watched the Champions League final in a hotel and the thing that stuck in my mind was at half time when we were 3-0 down and all you could hear were our fans singing You'll Never Walk Alone.

"I saw the scenes from the parade of the city and they were absolutely fantastic. I can't wait to play my first game in a Liverpool shirt."

let's take Stevie G's transfer request on a positive side since we'll never know what really happened and who is to blame.

Now that we wants to leave LFC, i thing that we should try and get as much money as we can in this deal(over 30 millions pound) so that we can really add quality to our squad.

IMO, although i really like Steven Gerrard as a player, i think it was time for him to leave as his transfer saga might have been disturbing other players who might have felt that Gerrard was treated as a very big star at the club.

He wants to go, then just let him leave or else it would turn out to be the same situation as last summer. What happened to M.Owen? He wanted to win more trophies, he left for Real Madrid and won no cups while we won the Champions League

The departure of SG might prove a blessing in disguise as who knows that John Welsh might turn out to be a great player as well. We already have someone of class of Xabi Alonso. I certainly love Gerrard to stay but we can't force him to do so.

In Rafael Benitez i trust and i've read a few times that the spaniard wanted to build a team around Gerrard. For those saying that benitez is the one to blame, then you are totally wrong. i have also read that Rafa said that if Stevie G signs a new contract he will have to go according to the manager's rules. That shows that it was not the case before. Any reasons ???? I guess that might have been the determining factors in the new contract talks.

Well...I still hope that Stevie G stays but even though he leaves, i will still trust Mr Benitez.

The Times states today that a "friend "of Steven has been quoted as saying that he is v.angry at L.F.C's stalling on this issue and that Steven has said that he has instructed his agent at SFX to cancel any further negotiation with the club. If this had appeared in the Star, I would have had the large pinch of salt to hand, but the Times doesn't generally do conjecture in it's sports reporting. If true, and Steven goes, then let us hope we get 30 mil  for him ,to fuel the Rafalution.
