it's obvious that the vision that rafa has, and the team he wants to build does not involve steven gerrard anyway. if stevie g happened to still be here a couple of years down the line, that would be a bonus.
don't get me wrong, stevie g is a fantastic player but i just don't think that he would fit into the system that rafa wants to use.
those of you who watched valencia when rafa was there will know that he always preferred a 4-2-3-1 system. if you ask me he wants to do exactly the same here. now you look at the two sitting midfielders. alonso is a shoe in for one of these positions and you would have thought didi hamann would be the other. playing gerrard here would just waste his talent (almost like what seems to happen for england). further up the pitch, benitez wants to use morientes just behind a lone striker with support from garcia, kewell etc.
