Thoughts on pitch condition if we meet hb torshavn

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby dward » Mon Jun 27, 2005 1:56 pm

Just wanted to get people's thoughts on HB Torshavn's pitch...

HB Torshavn

HB Torshavn from the Faroe Islands would be an interesting team to play against in the second round as half of their team would be autograph hunters as they are Liverpool fans.

They were the first team to qualify for the Champions League as they lost just one game en route to winning a Faroe Islands league and cup double.

HB Torshavn play at the 5,000 capacity Gundadalur Stadium and their pitch is made of artificial grass and sand because real grass just won't grow in what is a harsh Atlantic climate.

Their star striker is Jakup a Borg who has won 37 caps for the Faroe Islands but has only scored twice.

that's from the liverpool website

don't like the sound of the pitch!!!

If won't matter, the players will still be walking on air.

Anyway, at least it will be perfectly even and won't divot.

Hockey players do it all the time.

The only thing that might differ is that the players may pull up a little sore because there won't be much give in the surface to take regular and constant impacting as a result of running.

Ireland played the Faroe Islands 3 weeks ago in Thorsavn..or whatever way it's spelt.

Don't know if it's the same pitch but it was a real one...bumps and all...and the weather was terrible. Small compact ground....my only hope is that they don't have too many of their national team playing if we were to meet them....could be tricky over there.

I'd say that the Faroe Islands have more than one soccer pitch there.

I'd say that'd be a good assumption.  I play on an artificial grass field and it's a wonderful option seeing as we don't have the budget to make the rest of em look like miniature anfields.

just hope the bumpiness of the pitch (if they play there) won't make the players buckle. would be horrible to see stevie g or any other player out with a sprained ankle for 6 weeks.    :help

maybe I'm being pessimistic  ???

As for the football, i also watched ireland scrape past the Faroes couple wks ago and the home side were full of spirit and looked like causing us trouble in the first half. Liverpool should have more than enough tho to take care of the tie in the home leg.

We'll be grand - IF we do get them. (Kaunas should go thro from the 1st round IMO)

I couldnt give a toss about the state of the pitch, the money there on they should be able to play on a bomb site.

EDWARD   or at least thats what I gather he means.  Personally I see it as a given we get past the first 2 qualifying rounds so I hope we get Faroe Islands as it would be the pinnacle of all their careers.
